Economic Research Unit (ERU)
Strategic research plans
The Economic Research Unit (ERU) of the Deanship of Scientific Research at the University of Bahrain intends to carry out a series of activities in the period September 2008 to June 2011. Following is a brief description of planned activities:
- 1. Exerting efforts to win contractual research projects from potential clients in the kingdom of Bahrain to conduct numerous works such as feasibility studies. Eventually, the ERU aims to project itself as a consulting house on economic matters.
- Writing working papers for economic seminars held in Bahrain and beyond. Also, the ERU plans to send delegations to local and regional economic conferences.
- Keeping track of economic developments in the kingdom of Bahrain (i.e. labour and economic reforms) and where possible publishing papers in local media sources providing commentaries on changing economic conditions.
- Holding regular training workshops (for students and the general public) discussing specifics related to economic research. This service includes workshops talking about completed masters and doctoral theses. The ERU expects contributions from visiting scholars to Bahrain, a matter that would be coordinated with sponsoring institutions.
- Setting up a dedicated library containing journals and researched papers. The ERU plans to solicit support from institutions operating in the kingdom of Bahrain to help in developing the library

The ERU of the Deanship of Scientific Research at the University of Bahrain intends to focus on the following fields during the period extending from September 2008 to June 2011:
- Economic directions the kingdom of Bahrain
- Managerial practices in the kingdom of Bahrain
- Islamic finance
