INTRODUCTION

In November 2009, the University of Bahrain (UOB) signed a memorandum of understanding with Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) and Bahrain Business Incubator Centre (BBIC) to support entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The MOU proposes the establishment of a University of Bahrain technology-based Incubation Centre (UBIC), planning and implementation of entrepreneurship and enterprise development programs as well as related educational courses.

To be the hub of knowledge-based innovation in Bahrain.

MISSION

Supporting the local economy and striving to meet the aspirations of Bahrain economic vision 2030. Promoting innovation and developing entrepreneurial skills among existing and potential entrepreneurs. Assisting Bahraini entrepreneurs in establishing their own robust knowledge-based enterprises and helping them to reach international markets as well as networking with support institutions and facilitating collaborations with the scientific community.
UBIC will support the following goals and activities:

  1. To encourage innovation that contributes to knowledge based economy.
  2. To consider ways of creating awareness and encourage entrepreneurial values among students and strengthen business capabilities in future entrepreneurs, hence empowering our youth
  3. To consider ways of identifying promising student projects and provide support for development and commercialization of these ideas and inventions.
  4. To consider ways of identifying promising students and encourage them to work as small business entrepreneurs to develop and commercialize new products and services.
  5. To develop an understanding of the current global economy and the opportunities that exists for innovation and application of new technologies.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DIVISION

This division will cater for potential entrepreneurs, including current university students and faculty. The division’s aim is to build entrepreneurship knowledge and skills through entrepreneurial awareness and enterprise development interventions and inclusion of entrepreneurial skills teaching in the academic curricula. The activities and services that the division would provide are:

  1. Entrepreneurial awareness campaign
    1. Participation in wide-ranging activities to encourage entrepreneurship mindset.
    2. Organizing competitions
    3. Promoting entrepreneurship through announcements, leaflets, posters, media
