The University of Bahrain has adopted the UK Professional standard Frameworks (PSF) as a basis for its faculty development programs. The UK PSF, which was devised by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK in 2006, has also been promoted by the Higher Education Council (HEC) in Bahrain for all HE institutions. This framework can be used as a standard competency model that defines successful performance in teaching and supporting learning in HE in Bahrain.

At the UoB, the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) has been given the responsibility to deliver programs and workshops directly aligned to this framework. However, this cannot be achieved without collaboration with academic leaders in the various colleges such as the Heads of Departments (HOD) or Directors of QAAC. Therefore, it is essential for academic leaders to have a clear understanding of this framework to be able to assist faculty in their department evaluate and develop their teaching practice and make use of the services provided by the UTEL.

This workshop serves as an introductory workshop to the UK PSF of academic leaders. It is intended to explain the dimensions of the UK PSF for teaching and supporting learning in HE, and evaluate the use of the UK PSF as a basis for staff training and performance management in Bahrain.

Learning Outcomes:

After the completion of the function, the participant will be able to:
