The BTC currently offers the 3-Tier Educational Leadership Program. It is a school leaders’ preparation program for Assistant Principals, Acting Assistant Principals and Senior Teachers of schools in the Kingdom. Participants in the program are selected by the Ministry of Education and some activities in the program are undertaken in collaboration with schools and the Ministry.

The main values underlying the 3-Tier Educational Leadership Program are: meaningfulness, relevance, rigor, coherence and standards. It is organized in the form of a professional development career ladder and is fully integrated with the increasingly challenging, demanding and complex roles of the Kingdom of Bahrain school leaders.

The 3-Tier ELP program engages participants in 28 credit hours of study (420 contact hours), over a minimum of 2-academic years to a maximum of 6-years, leading to the UOB Higher Diploma of Education Leadership. Participants must successfully complete all prescribed courses and other program requirements with a GPA of 2.5 or more, in order to be granted the Higher Diploma.   Participants must complete all three levels of the program within 6 academic years.

The 3-Tier ELP emphasizes on the coherent connections across the modules and across the platforms of learning – coursework modules, internship experience, innovative research project and educational study trip, and between theory and practice.

Content Knowledge

The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.

Student Development

The teacher understands how children learn and develop and can provide learning opportunities that support a child’s intellectual, social, emotional, moral, and general personal development.

Diverse Learners

The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

Instructional Strategies

The teacher plans instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals. The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills.

Learning Environment (classroom management)

The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Assessment

The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner.

Communication & Instructional Technology

The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and multi-media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.

School, Community, and Civic Engagement

The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support students’ learning and well being.

Reflective Practice, Ethics and Professionalism
The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.

Admission to the BTC is available only to Bahraini citizens who make a commitment to a career of teaching in the public education system.

All students must meet the requirements for support specified for each program by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and be recommended for admission to the UoB by the MOE. Recommended students must be admitted to the University in order to register in the BTC.

Students should apply to the MOE for recommendation to the BTC and the UoB for admission to the University at the same time.

Applicant to BTC must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Bahraini citizenship
  • High school certificate in one of the following: unified track, vocational-advanced
  • Minimum CGPA of 80% in the high school certificate
  • High school graduation within two years of intended BTC matriculation
  • No record of previous enrollment or dismissal from BTC
  • Pass MoE admission tests and interview
  • Evidence of good physical health supported by a medical report from the specialized authorities
  • Good character with no conviction of a felony
  • Meet the general admissions requirements of the University of Bahrain
