This program aims to support students’ ability to understand, analyze and critique the aesthetic and philosophical components of the social and physical environment in which they live. Subsequently, they will be able to contribute to the cultural, urban, social and political discourse taking place within the Kingdom of Bahrain, allowing them to contribute to the global and regional promotion of this geographically small, but culturally rich, country of Bahrain.

Moreover, the program enhances students’ capabilities in visual mass communication and artistic expression of abstract concepts in a practical and creative manner. The students acquire these skills and capabilities through brainstorming and designing various forms of artworks, including print and digital media, allowing them to work in many fields and in various design and advertising agencies as well as business and investment firms. The program aims to correlate directly to the needs the labor market equipping students with locally relevant skills, as well as academic knowledge as they seek to set forth in a career in fine arts and graphic design.

  • To provide students with a cultural foundation that includes up- to -date information and skills in the areas of fine arts and graphic design in order to enable them to keep up with the rapid and continuous technological developments, and to enable them to provide artistic and technological solutions for social problems.
  • To provide a learning environment that encourages and stimulates students’ creativity and innovation through the design and production of unique artworks, and the design of aesthetic and effective artistic solutions, which qualify them to work in print and electronic media, as well as the acquirement of good communication skills and appropriate work ethics.
  • To prepare specialized cadres in graphic design and fine arts who have the ability to criticize and evaluate, and possess a sense of artistic and cultural awareness which qualifies them to work in various sectors including culture and heritage, as well as the private sector.
  • To equip students with practical and artistic skills in design, fine arts and scientific research in order to qualify them to pursue higher studies and compete for employment opportunities in the public or private sector.
  • To help students graduate with distinct competencies in self-development through scientific research and exploration, and professional creation of artworks that are in pace with modern developments and that contribute to the economy at the local and regional levels.
  1. To creatively and innovatively produce high- quality artworks that combine technical and artistic skills, taking into account the principles and elements of design, color theory, and aesthetic values.
  2. To acquire verbal and written expression and persuasion skills, as well the necessary skills to implement, evaluate, analyze, and criticize the theoretical aspects related to practical artworks, and to present them for constructive public criticism.
  3. To acquire cognitive curiosity that extends beyond the scientific content provided by the course instructor, and gain self-motivation to self-learn strategies and technical skills in the field of art and design.
  4. To gain professional and functional expertise that qualifies students to work in all areas of art and design, or to pursue higher studies in these areas.
  5. To gain intense cultural familiarity with the psychological, social, ethical and legal considerations in any artwork.
  6. To gain enough knowledge of artistic research methods in the field of Arts and Design and the ability to undertake research and studies that reflect student s’ understanding of the economic, historical, political, artistic and philosophical concepts and aspects of civilization.
  7. To produce effective and influential artworks that can have an impact on social issues and public opinion.

In addition to the general conditions and regulations applicable at the University of Bahrain, students who wish to enroll in the Bachelor's Program in Arts and Design have to meet the following requirements:

  1. To pass the written test organized by the department for this purpose, and in accordance with the criteria specified by the program.
  2. To pass the interview organized by the department for this purpose, and in accordance with the criteria specified by the program.
  3. To pass the technical aptitude test organized by the department for this purpose, and in accordance with the criteria specified by the program.
  4. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 or more in order to continue in the program, in accordance with the procedures of the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
