This program works to build a national knowledge base in information and communication sciences and it's various applications. It seeks to prepare students using the highest academic and professional standards keeping pace with the rapid developments in this field, while focusing on the needs of political, social, cultural, media and communication institutions in the community. The students will complete the program having gained an intellectual awareness of the complexities of media and communication in the era of globalization as well as its potential for both negative and positive impacts on unique social and cultural communities.

  • Contributing in the cognitive contemporary construction of various media sciences and communication through the production of local methodological knowledge of these sciences.
  • Contributing in the preparation of generations of researchers who are able to understand and accommodate the accumulated global cognitive heritage in Media and Communication Sciences and who are able to systematically testing it in the national social and cultural context.
  • Supporting the political reform programs, particularly the political development programs and empowerment of women by providing their needs of qualified cadres and media professionals.
  • Improving the performance of the production and service organizations in the community through the development of knowledge and skills of the staff involved in public relations, organizational communication, advertising and marketing tasks.
  • Contributing to the performance improvement of the communication institutions in society through the development of knowledge and skills of their employees at an advanced level, and provide the institutions with scientific research needed to develop and evaluate their performance.
  • Developing the knowledge and skills of the practitioners who didn't graduate from the departments of communication.
Supporting the educational process at the department of communication by linking the global knowledge with the local heritage applications.

Students with a Master’s degree in Communication should be able to:

  1. Provide a knowledge structure on the current and future status of information and communication in Bahrain, that can be capitalize on to build policies, legislation and decision-making by the executive and legislative bodies in Bahrain.
  2. Fulfill the needs of the society institutions concerned with the planning and managing the development of knowledge and provide those programs with qualified national cadres cognitively and professionally.
  3. Meet the labor market needs of qualified national cadres cognitively and professionally.
  4. Prepare a generation of qualified researchers in all areas of information and communication and who are able to meet the need for knowledge of the community and the different institutions.
  5. Prepare a generation of qualified researchers intellectually and cognitively and who are able to raise the level of discussion of social issues in the public sphere.
  6. Provide the institutions with practitioners who are able to improve their economic, communicative, and social and media performance on advanced scientific and professional basis.
  7. Develop the abilities of media practitioners and communication professionals from non-media professionals.
Develop the Knowledge and skills of Bahraini diplomats in the areas of public diplomacy (The diplomacy of media and communication).

For Bachelor' s degree holder in (Communication, languages and Linguistics, Law, Economic, Sociology, Psychology)

  1. To hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a university or an institution accredited by the University of Bahrain, with a minimum GPA of 2.67 out of 4 (or its equivalent) ;
  2. To pass the written test organized by the department for this purpose, and in accordance with the criteria specified by the program ;
  3. To pass the interview organized by the department for this purpose, and in accordance with the criteria specified by the program.
  4. To provide two recommendation letters ;
  5. Proficiency in English language. Must have passed TOFEL or IELTS tests with the minimum required score.
