OVERVIEW

In November 2019, UNESCO’s General Conference approved Kingdom of Bahrain’s proposal to designate November 18th of each year as the International Day for Islamic Art. This Proclamation celebrates the role and the contribution of Islamic art to the world’s culture; with a history that spans over 1,400 years it disseminated diverse yet unique aesthetic expressions of religious values.

Aligned with the events organised Bahrain’s Authority for Culture and Antiquities celebrating this day, the Department of Architecture and Interior Design will be offering a webinar which includes series of talks and discussions that highlight some of the major topics underpinning the Islamic aesthetics in contemporary design and architecture.

THEMES

  • The future of Mosque Architecture in the Arabian Gulf
  • Symbolism in Islamic Art and Architecture
