Department of Computer Science is an important part of the College of Information Technology at the University of Bahrain. The department offers a BSc degree in Computer Science, where the program focuses on preparing students for working within the IT profession in areas such as computer programming, system analysis and design and software development; as well as preparing them to for research and graduate studies in the field of computing.

The Computer Science Department has been established in 1989, and the faculty is made up of 24 members and his staff consists of 20 employees. Research groups within the department focus mainly on areas such as software engineering, e-learning and artificial intelligence, as well as algorithms and applied big data analytics.

The Department of Computer Science is located at the College of Information Technology Building - S40 on the UOB campus in Sakhir. There are 9 general computer laboratories and one dedicated laboratory for senior projects’ students. Computer Science program includes an advanced set of curricula which are designed according to international standards (such as curricula ACM/IEEE 2013) and compatible with ABET curriculum requirements for Computer Science. Furthermore, the program was accredited since 2010 by ABET and has been listed on the Bahraini National Qualifications Framework since 2015.
Dr. Hesham Al-Ammal

Hesham Al-Ammal received his MSc Degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University in 1993. He completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Warwick, Coventry, in 2000. He was the Chair of the Computer Science Department (2003-2007), then Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center (2009-2011), and is currently the Dean of the College of IT. His teaching and research interests include algorithms, Markov chains, computer security, information retrieval and machine learning. He currently is the Dean and head of the Applied Data Science Lab at the College of IT.

Dr. Lamya Aljasmi

Lamya Aljasmi received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Sussex at Brighton, United Kingdom in 2000. She also received her Postgraduate Certificate for Academic Practice from York St John University, United Kingdom in 2012. She completed her M.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado, USA in 1992. Lamya was appointed to be the Director of the Quality Assurance Office in the College of Information Technology, University of Bahrain since November, 2012 until present. Lamya’s teaching and research interests include Object-Oriented Methodology and Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Visualization and Software Engineering.

Dr. Faisal Al-Qaed received his MSc. in Internet Computing with Distinction from University of Surrey, UK in 2003. He completed his PhD in Adaptive Decision Support System for B2C E-Commerce at University of Manchester, UK in 2008. In addition, he has received his Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from Saint-John York University, UK in 2010. Dr. Faisal Al-Qaed is currently Assistant Professor of Web Computing and Development, B2C E-Commerce and HCI, in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bahrain. His research spans web technologies, HCI and DSS with recent interests in e-services and mobile technologies.

Ramzi was appointed to be the Chair of the Department of Computer Science in the College of Information Technology, University of Bahrain since 2011 until 2015. Ramzi’s teaching and research interests include Object-Oriented Methodology and Programming, Computer-Aided Learning, and Software Engineering.

Dr. Amine Mahjoub

Amine Mahjoub received his MSc. Degree in Computer Science from National Polytechnic Institute, Grenoble, France, in 2000. He completed his PhD in computer science at the same institute, in 2004. He has also worked as attached teacher in the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble and in Blaise Pascal university of Clermont Ferrand in France, before being recruited as assistant professor since 2006 in the University of Sousse, Tunisia. His teaching and research interests include combinatorial optimization problems, scheduling problems in parallel computing, complexity theory and advanced algorithms.

Dr. Youssef Harrath

Youssef Harrath is an assistant professor at the University of Bahrain, College of Information Technology. He received his B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Science, Monastir-Tunisia in 1998. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Operational research, Combinatorial, and Optimization from the International Polytechnic Institute, Grenoble-France in 2000. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Franche Comte, Besançon-France in 2003. Dr. Youssef has a teaching experience as assistant professor at international universities such as University of Bahrain, KFUPM, Saudi Arabia, and High Institute of Applied Computer Sciences of Lorraine, France, and National Institute Of Applied Science, France. Youssef Harrath is actively working in many research areas such as: scheduling and optimization. He has more than 20 publications in International journals and conferences.

Dr. Ahmed Fahad

Dr. Fawzi Abdulaziz Albalooshi

Dr. FawziAlbalooshi is currently a faculty member in the department of computer science at the colleg of IT in the University of Bahrain. He worked on secondment basis for three years as a Senior Director in the Higher Education Review Unit in the National Authority for Qualifications and Quality Assurance of Education and Training. DrFawzi has years of academic and administrative experience in the field of IT. He has been the Acting Dean for the College of Applied Studies, Director of Business and IT programs for the College of Applied Studies, Director Evening Programmes for the IT College, and Director Evening Programmes in the College of Science. DrFawzi was a member (and chaired some) of many committees at the national, university, college, and department levels. Dr. Fawzi has published many research articles in international journals and conferences. He has authored and edited books in the field of IT. DrFawzi Has earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wales in the field of Software Engineering.

Dr. Taher Homeed

Taher Homeed received his B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science from Mousel University, Iraq, 1987. He completed his PhD in Computer Science at Bradford University, UK 1998. He has also attended many workshops in teaching techniques, assessment and feedback methods. He also worked as Consultant Reviewer, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), IT Colleges Arab country, Sept 2002- 2003. He is a member of a number of technical committee in different research journals and international conferences. His teaching and research interests include programming languages, systems analysis and design, software development and web engineering.

Dr. Abdel-Fattah Salman

Hasan Kamal received his BSc. Degree in Computer Science from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia in 1991. He got his MSc. Degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University, USA in 1996. He completed his PhD in Automatic Generation of Natural Language at University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2001. He was Chairman of the Information Systems Department, College of IT at the University of Bahrain. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the College of IT. His teaching and research interests include Database Systems, Natural Language Processing, and Programming Languages.

Ali Alsaffar received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in 1991, M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA, in 1997 and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA in 2001. His main research interest is Data Mining, Information Retrieval & Filtering, Database Management Systems, and Machine Learning. He was the Director for Continuing Education for the IT College at the University of Bahrain from 2006 to 2011, where he has conducted numerous IT professional workshops and short courses to UOB staff, and to public and private sectors.

Dr. Mohsen Rouached

Mohsen Rouached received his Habilitation Degree (2018) in Computer Science from University of Sorbonne Paris 1. He holds a PhD (2008) and MSc (2005) in Computer Science from University of Lorraine Nancy, France.
His research interests span over several areas related to service oriented computing, business processes management, IT security, services semantics, Internet of things, and cloud computing. He has published over 70 research papers in these domains. He serves as program committee member and reviewer at many international journals and conferences and has been participating in several research projects.

Hedeel Shawkat Al-Obaidy is an assistant professor at the University of Bahrain, College of Information Technology, Department of Computer Science, since 2012. Dr. Al Obaidy earned her Ph.D. from the University of Technology, Iraq in 2006. In addition to teaching, Dr. Al-Obaidy has been active in research. Her main areas of interest are software and web engineering and their applications in web-based applications such as search engine, E-government, E-learning, ontology and semantic web and knowledge-based economy. Dr. Al-Obaidy has published more than 20 articles and she co-authored three books. She is also active in the community by writing in the newspapers and magazines. She is a member of international academic association and research centers.

Nabil Hewahi received his M.Tech. Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India, in 1991. He completed his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence at JNU, New Delhi, in 1994. He has been working with the Islamic University of Gaza, Palestine since 1996 where he became a full professor in 2006 and later joined UOB in 2011. As a researcher he has published more than 50 papers in very well known conferences and journals. He has been a winner of various prizes. His teaching and research interests include intelligent systems, machine learning, genetic algorithms and knowledge representation.
