The College of Information Technology started its Master Program in Information Technology in 2011 with an aim to “play a major role in the development of industrial and academic resources related to information technologies, with the vision to make University of Bahrain a part of the processes aimed to transform Bahrain's economy into a knowledge-based economy by promoting efficient, sustainable and effective IT initiatives in accordance with Bahrain Vision 2030”.

The program has been running since 2011 and admits around 20 students annually. Many successful students have graduated from the program with excellent thesis results. The two year program aims at building capacity within the Bahraini IT market for research and development and strengthening the IT professionals working within the Kingdom and regionally.

M.Sc. in Information Technology graduates will

  1. Acquire advanced cutting-edge knowledge and leadership skills necessary to advance their careers in IT.
  2. Engage in exploration, innovation, research, and life-long learning in the field of IT.
  3. Contribute positively to society through responsible, professional, and ethical IT practice and research.

Upon graduation, a UOB graduate in M.Sc. in Information Technology program should demonstrate:

  1. An ability to apply the knowledge of computing and IT appropriate to the discipline.
  2. An ability to analyse challenging problems and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate for their solutions that meet appropriate computing standards and realistic constraints.
  3. An ability to effectively identify and analyse user needs and take them into account in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-based systems.
  4. An ability to design, implement, and evaluate a system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs using best practices and standards, within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, ethical, health and safety, etc.
  5. An ability to function effectively in a team by assuming different roles and demonstrating effective leadership qualities and project management skills to accomplish a common goal towards a significant project.
  6. An ability to assess professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities.
  7. An Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a range of audiences.
  8. An ability to engage in continuing professional development and life-long learning.
  9. An ability to acquire, critically evaluate and apply a wide range of advanced and specialized techniques, skills and tools necessary for IT practice.
  10. An ability to conduct research, individually and in a team.
To be admitted to the M.Sc. Program in Information Technology, the applicant shall fulfill the following requirements

  • The applicant must have a bachelor degree in IT, IT-related field, engineering or science with sufficient IT background (see detailed MSc in IT handbook) from the University of Bahrain or an equivalent degree from a recognized university with a GPA of at least (2.67) on a 4-point scale, or an equivalent grade according to other evaluation systems.
  • The degree that a student holds should be achieved through a full-time study in a specialization that qualifies him/her to join the program.
  • Students seeking admission to the program have to pass an entrance examination.
  • The student must attend and pass a personal interview.
  • The student must present two recommendations letters from his/her former professors/employers.
  • The student must satisfy the English proficiency requirements of the University for Master Program admission. A score of at least 500 in TOEFL or 5.00 in IELTS is required.
  • A student having deficiency in IT background required for the Master program may have to take up to three undergraduate-level courses (maximum 9 credit hours) as recommended and deemed necessary by the post-graduate committee in accordance with the clause 13 of the rules of graduate studies.
  • Any other requirements as stipulated by the university rules for post-graduate study.
