MohamedEl Hilo 2The College of Science is dedicated to provide students with knowledge, intellectual and general skills, prepare students for future careers, graduate and professional studies, and to be active and responsible members of society. The college of Science goals is to generate and disseminate knowledge in areas of national and international concerns that address society’s problems and enhance economic development; build partnership with the public and private sectors; through a learning environment that provide excellent teaching, mentoring, and interactive student-based learning; innovative research; reaching out to local, regional, and global communities.

The College of Science is one of the key Colleges in the University that makes valuable contribution to the UoB citable scientific research record where it is responsible for at least 40% of the University citable research record. In addition, the college manage the Arab Journal for Basic and Applied Sciences (AJBAS) formally known as Journal of the Association of Arab Universities for Basic and Applied Sciences (JAAUBAS). The journal ranked in the first quarter (Q1) among the top multidisciplinary journals worldwide and its metrics for the year 2017, are: SJR= 0.336 from SCImago and Scopus_SiteScore = 2.26.

The total number of students registered in the college of science for the year 2017/2018 has reached 1350 student. The college target is to increase the number of students in all programs and to offer new programs that are fit to the market. Also the college intention is to increase its postgraduate programs. In addition, the college has 78 full time and 10 part time faculty members whom graduated from a well know universities and highly qualified in their specializations. This will ensure that the college of science graduates are educated by specialized faculty and have gained various educational skills.

The College of Science has 5 B.Sc. single track programs, these are; Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Statistics and Operational Research and Physics. In addition, the student can study one major and one minor such as minor in Biology, or Chemistry, or Mathematics, or Statistical and Operations Research, or Physics, or Computer Science. In the year 2018/2019, the College of Science introduced a new B.Sc. program in Actuarial offered by the department of Mathematics.

For the postgraduate programs, the college currently has 4 M.Sc. programs, these are; Mathematics, Environment and Sustain Development, Applied Physics and Nutrition and Dietetics. The number of credit hours to obtain the B.Sc. Degrees range between 128-129 credit hours, whereas for the M.Sc. it ranges from 33-36 credit hours. Also, the College of Science has offered a P.hD degree in Environment and Sustainable Development in which the student need to study 75 credit hours.

In the year 2018/2019, the College of Science introduced 3 new postgraduate programs, these are M.Sc. in Big Data Science and Analytics in cooperation with Liverpool John Moores University, M.Sc. in Biological Sciences and a Higher Diploma in Meteorology in cooperation with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication.
