Center for Childhood Studies:

1- A brief summary about the Center Services:
The Center was established on 27/12/2011. Since 2010, the Center has been training kindergarten teachers, the training was based on an understanding memorandum between the University of Bahrain and Tamkeen Labor Fund. The figures show that about 1059 kindergarten teachers were trained between 2010 and 2019.

The Center's work took an important turn in November 2018, when the Supreme Council for Women launched an important national initiative to improve the situation of early childhood workers and signed an understanding memorandum with both University of Bahrain and Tamkeen.

The National Program for the Development of Work in Kindergartens and Kindergartens was launched on Monday, May 13, 2019 in partnership between the Supreme Council for Women, the University of Bahrain and the Tamkeen Labor Fund.

This important national program will result in an improvement in salaries of female workers in this sector within the training and remuneration support program for Tamkeen Labor Fund. Women who are working in this sector will enjoy new benefits such as paying summer leave, granting maternity leave and paid care hours, the institution is committed to pay the beneficiaries of the project during the summer period and to pay the Social Insurance Authority. The role of University of Bahrain is organized by being a partner in this important national program, and preparing and supervising three training programs for women working in this sector ( the ongoing program and two new other programs).

  2. Training Program for Nursery Educators
  3. Training program for kindergartens and nurseries


3) Justifications for the training programs accompanying the national program:

  1. To implement the policies of the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve the economic vision 2030, which depends on promoting the principles of competitiveness, justice and sustainability to achieve high quality standards in order to improve the productivity of the Bahraini citizen.
  2. Adopting modern approaches to educational reform in the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the umbrella of Economic Development Board, which has taken initiatives to reform education and gave priority to training
  3. To work on the recommendations of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, issued by the Supreme Council for Women in 2103-2023, which included the need to pay attention to the rehabilitation and training of female workers in the field of kindergartens.
  4. To take note of the recommendations of all organizations and institutions concerned with childhood and motherhood, foremost of which UNICEF recommendations, that urge to pay more attention to kindergarten stage and to take care of pre-school childhood, which is the basic stage for improving the situation of children.
  5. Adopting international standards for quality education in early childhood, the program was designed on the basis of criteria set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which set basic standards that should be met in kindergarten.
  6. Improve the performance of women working in the childhood sector by developing their educational competencies and improving their working conditions, thus affecting their productivity at work and improving their quality of life.
  7. To pay much care for childhood because early childhood is the basic block for good, productive, and integrated individuals and citizens, and to help working mothers care for their children in kindergartens and nurseries during their work hours.

4) Description of the training programs accompanying the national program:

Program 1: Training program for kindergarten teachers:
This program is one of the programs agreed upon by the interim team assigned to improve the situation of women who work in kindergartens and nurseries and which was formed by representatives of the Supreme Council of Women and the University of Bahrain. It is deemed one of the mechanisms for implementing the programs of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2013-2022).

The program consists of 134 training hours in the form of 10 modules and 40 hours of field training. It began in November 2010 in accordance with an understanding memorandum signed between the University of Bahrain and Tamkeen Labor Fund. The training was activated by the understanding memorandum in November of 2018, to continue beside the training programs designed for women who work in preschools, kindergartens, and nurseries.

a. Objectives:

  1. Provide teachers with knowledge, experience, skills and professional competencies in the field of children development and learning how to play, and evaluate their performance
  2. Introduce teachers to the necessary skills to observe the health and safety conditions in kindergartens.
  3. Training teachers in organizing the environment and in the unified approach
  4. Training teachers in the skills of dealing with special groups and behavioral problems of kindergarten children.
  5. Provide teachers with positive attitudes towards adhering to professional ethics and self-development.
  6. Provide teachers with the necessary communication experiences to activate the positive relationship with family and society

Program 2: Training Program for Nursery Educators
a. Objectives:

  1. Provide nurseries of children with the necessary professional skills in the field of child development and learning to play, evaluate their performance, and provide a culturally and emotionally safe environment.
  2. Provide teachers with the necessary expertise to take into consideration the conditions of health, safety and proper nutrition in the nursery.
  3. Train teachers in organizing the environment and the child-centered approach
  4. Training teachers in dealing with special groups and behavioral problems of children.
  5. Provide teachers with positive attitudes towards adhering to professional ethics and self-development.
  6. Provide teachers with the necessary communication experiences to activate the positive relationship with family and society

Program 3: Training Program for Kindergarten and Kindergarten Managers
a. Objectives:

  1. Provide managers of early childhood stage some professional, administrative and financial competencies in order to achieve excellence and quality.
  2. Provide managers with the knowledge, experience and skills in the field of child development, learning, curriculum and the learning environment in which health and safety conditions are met.
  3. Training managers in planning, supervision, follow-up and evaluation skills
  4. Training managers in preparing annual budgets and reports of the kindergarten, and developing financial resources.
  5. Provide managers with the skills to deal with the behavioral problems of children and special groups.
  6. Provide managers with effective communication experiences to activate the positive relationship with family and society
