Short Bio: 

Sana Ahmed Al-Mansoori is the Director and the founder of the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) at the University of Bahrain (UoB). She is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA) and is also an Associate of the HEA.

In her current role, Sana leads a team of academics in the UTEL to deliver faculty development programs and workshops to the Higher Education sector in Bahrain. Sana has been involved in faculty development initiatives at the UoB since 2007, assuming several roles including mentoring, program design, workshop delivery and coordination of HEA accredited programs.

Prior to directing the UTEL, Sana served as the Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at the UoB from 2012 to 2016 during which she focused on the development of quality assurance procedures in the department and the development of the programs offered by the department through closer collaboration with the various stakeholders.

Sana is also an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, which she joined in 1995. She teaches Electromagnetics, Signals and Systems, Fiber Optic Communications, and Antennas and Propagation. Her areas of research interest include; optical signal processing and biomedical engineering.

Dr. Thuraya Abdulrahman Almansoori

Short Bio:

Thuraya A. Rahman Almansoori has been the Director of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) Programme in the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) at the University of Bahrain (UoB) since August 2016. She has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), UK since October 2017.

Thuraya has been actively involved in faculty development initiatives at the UoB since she completed the PCAP programme in 2008. She was a group mentor in the PCAP programme offered in collaboration with York St. John University, from 2008-2012. In 2013, she was nominated a member in the committee designed the UoB PCAP programme, which has been accredited by the UK HEA in August 2013. She was assigned a lecturer in the PCAP programme, from 2013 to 2016. She delivered two courses PCAP501 (Reflective Practice) and PCAP502 (Personal and Professional Development). She has been nominated a member in the committee revised the PCAP and the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes, which have been reaccredited in August 2017. She has been actively involved in founding a new faculty development programme; entitled: New to Teaching in Bahrain (NTB).

Thuraya has been actively involved in the delivery of a wide range of faculty development standalone workshops. She has been nominated a member in the CPD portfolio assessment committee targeting UK HEA fellowship recognition. She coordinated the delivery of the CPD programme. Currently, she coordinates the delivery of the PCAP programme.

Thuraya is also an assistant professor in the Department of Biology, which she joined in 1991. She teaches Plant Physiology, Cell Biology and General Biology. Her research interest is stress physiology.

Dr. Thuraya  Juma Abdulla is Director of Quality Assurance Office at College of Science since December 2012. She was Coordinator of College of Science Students Training from 2008-2012. Dr. Thuraya hold a Ph.D. in Numerical Analysis form Imperial College, London, UK. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) from University of York St. John.  She is a fellow of The Higher Education Academy (HEA) at UK since 2010. She got a Fulbright scholarship in 2011. Here interests are in Quality of Education and learning. Coaching and mentoring. She is member in different professional societies such as Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM), American Mathematical Society (AMS), and International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE), NAFSA, Association of International Educators and Toastmasters International. She attended several conferences and workshop in these fields.

Dr. Mervat Albufalasa

Short Bio:

Mervat Albufalasa has been assigned as a mentor of the PCAP program offered by the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) and the University of Bahrain (UOB) in September 2017. She has been a Fellow of the Higher Education academy (FHEA) UK since 2015.


Mervat has been involved in faculty development initiatives at the UoB since 2016, after she completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice Program (PCAP) in 2015. She assumed several roles in relation to the CPD and PCAP programs. She started as a mentor on the CPD program in the academic year 2016-2017. She was also involved in a review committee for the reaccreditation of the programs offered by UTEL in 2016-2017. She was engaged in a number of professional development workshops and seminars throughout the academic year 2016-2017. She was in the organizing team as well as the Master of Ceremony of the UTEL’s first symposium in Oct. 2016. She also organized the Graduation Ceremony for UOB PCAP and CPD Programs for the Academic Years (2013-2014) to (2015-2016). In addition, she was a member in the Annual Report Team, which was in charge of writing the annual report for the Unit progress over one academic year 2016-2017. Currently, she is a mentor in the PCAP program for the academic year 2017-2018.


Dr. Albufalasa, is an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of English Language and Literature at UOB. She is the Head of the Quality Assurance Committee at her Department. Her areas of interest include applied linguistics; theories of writing for EFL learners; teaching English Literature and its applications in language classrooms; and research methodology.

Dr. Hayat Abdulla Yusuf

Hayat Abdulla Yusuf has been assigned as a lecturer for the PCAP program in the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) at the University of Bahrain (UoB) since the UTEL was established in August 2016 . She has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK since June 2017, and a fellow since 2011.

She assumed several roles in relation to the PCAP program. She was initially a mentor on PCAP-Bahrain program during the period 2014-2015. She has also been involved in a review committee for the PCAP-BAH and CPD programs in 2016. The PCAP program was successfully reaccredited in 2017 in addition to the accreditation of CPD program that was delivered to the UoB academic staff in 2017. Hayat is currently a lecturer in the PCAP-UoB program. She participated in several committees such as the peer observation of teaching committees, and the faculty development committee at the institutional level.

Hayat is also an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, which she joined in 2002. She teaches Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Analytical Instrumentations. Her research interest is miniaturization and microfabrication, microfluidic systems, nanotechnology, dye degradation, heavy metals removal, and water treatment, as well as Modeling and optimization .

Dr. Hasan Mohsen Al-Wadi

Short Bio:

Hasan has been involved in faculty development initiatives at the UoB since he completed the Post Graduate certificate in Academic Practice Program (PCAP) from York St. John University, UK in 2012. He joined the Faculty Development Committee in 2013 and acted as the committee secretary in which he participated in developing the PCAP - Programme Handbook in 2012. He then joined as a mentor in to the PCAP participants when the UoB version of the programme was offered in 2013 till 2016. Dr. Hasan participated in developing and designing the mentoring handbook for the PCAP and he participated in delivering some of the PCAP sessions and assessing participants’ submitted assignments from 2013 to 2017. In 2017, Hasan was recognized as a Senior Fellow of the HEA-UK and in 2017-2018 he was appointed as a lecturer in the PCAP.

Dr. Hasan is an assistant professor of TESOL in the Department of English Language Education – Bahrain Teachers College, which he joined in 2008. He teaches research methods in education, principles and pratices of ELT, language testing and English for educational leaders. His research interest is teacher education, curriculum development, CPD in education, and professional knowledge of ELT. Hasan served as the Head of the Foundation Programme at Bahrain Teachers College from 2012 to 2015, he is the founder of the International Journal of Bilingual and Multilingual Teachers of English and acted as its managing editor from 2013 to 2017.

Dr. Hayat Ali is an Assistant Professor in Department of Information Systems at the University of Bahrain. Hayat received her master degree in Computer Science from University of Wolverhampton in UK in 2004 and completed her Ph.D in e-participation from University of Manchester in UK since 2010.
In 2007, Hayat was amongst the first batch of graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) Program offered by the University of York St. John UK and consequently became a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. She joined the PCAP program as a mentor from 2012 to 2016. In addition, she was a member of the PCAP program committee at the university level from 2013 until now.

Hayat got a senior fellow of HEA in Feb 2017 for her significant contribution in inspiring the academic staff in adopting the new teaching and learning practices. Recently, she was appointed as a coordinator for New to Teaching in Bahrain (NTB) program in the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL), which was introduced in year 2017-2018.

Dr. Ali has been selected as a representative of Academic Bahraini Women by the US Embassy in Bahrain and participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program on “Leadership in Engineering” in USA in 2005. She has many contributions in disseminating the most recent educational practices to her colleagues through UTEL since its establishment in 2016 and before that.

Short Bio:

Dr. Masooma Al-Mutawah received her Post Graduate Certificate for Academic Practice and the Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy in 2015. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Education, Mathematics Curricula and Teaching Methods in 2010. She then joined the University of Bahrain as an assistant professor in Bahrain Teachers College (BTC), where she has taught mathematics, statistics, assessment and evaluation and pedagogy courses for undergraduate, graduate, apprenticeship and educational leadership programs. She also has supervised students' educational research, graduating projects and teaching practice.
Dr. Masooma coordinating the post graduate diploma program in BTC, she also coordinates the e-portfolio graduation presentations for all the Bachelor of education programs at BTC. She is also active in several committees at the department, college and university level such as the curriculum committee at the college level and at the institutional level.
She has actively served her community through participation in radio and television awareness programs; through conducting training workshops or giving educational lectures for institutes, schools and NGOs. She has published a number of educational studies in international journals in the USA, Canada, Netherland and others in the fields of mathematics education, mental arithmetic, attitude towards mathematics, mathematics anxiety, TIMSS, grit and self-regulation. She has also taken part in several international scientific conferences in the UK, Singapore, Germany and other countries. She has published a chapter in the Advanced Arabic literary reader, 2016, published by Routledge and funded by the United States Department of Education at Yale University. She published a book developing Bahrain Future School Mathematics, 2017, by Lambert academic publishing. She is currently seeking to increase her contribution to scientific research and community service activities.

Dr. Athraa Al Mosawi


Short Bio:

Athraa Al Mosawi has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK since February 2011. She participated as speaker in the First Symposium on Teaching Transformation through Action Research organized by Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership at University of Bahrain. In 2017, she was assigned the role of mentor in the PCAP UoB program. Athraa is also active in several committees at the department, college and university levels such as the curriculum committee, exam and grade moderation committee, strategy and planning committee, senior project committee, and student development committee.

Athraa is also an assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems, which she joined in 1995. She teaches Enterprise Systems, Enterprise Architecture, and Systems Analysis and Design. Her research interests include enterprise architecture, enterprise resource planning, mobile application development and investigating the utilization of mobile applications in numerous business sectors.

Dr. Noora Hassan Isa Alghatam

Short Bio:

Dr. Noora Alghatam obtained her PhD in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also holds an MSc in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems (ADMIS) from LSE. As part of her thesis and related publications, she employed theoretical concepts of learning and sensemaking processes to explore ICT professionals in Dubai. Her current research initiatives are in the areas of ICT project implementation in the public sector, global formats for e-government, and the relationship between ICTs and institutional change in the GCC's public sector.

Noora is currently an Assistant Professor at the Information Systems Department, University of Bahrain (UOB). She is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. Prior to this, she was a teaching fellow at the LSE for Masters courses on ICT in the Public Sector and Management of IS, where she also engaged in a number of teaching and learning workshops. She is currently teaching similar topics to undergraduates at UOB and has established and taught the e-Government course in the Masters of Public Management program offered jointly by the University of Bahrain, Aix Marseille Universite and Ecole National D. Administration. She is one of the earliest members of MENAPAR which aims to establish a network of researchers in public administration in the MENA region and teaching cases on the topic. She has been an invited speaker at the World Education Summit in Bahrain in March 2017 on the topic of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) in the region. In addition to this, Noora is a contemporary artist and has exhibited her work in Bahrain's international exhibition ArtBab in 2017.

Dr. Zainab Ali Mohamed Redha

Zainab Mohammed Redha has been assigned as the coordinator of the CPD program offered by the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) at the University of Bahrain (UoB) in September 2017. She has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK since August 2017.

Zainab has been involved in faculty development initiatives at the UoB since she completed the Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice Program (PCAP) in 2010. She assumed several roles in relation to the PCAP program. She was initially a mentor on the program when it was offered in collaboration with the York St. John University in UK from 2011 to 2012. In 2013, she was assigned as a member of a PCAP-UOB committee, where she worked with the team to design a PCAP program to be delivered entirely by UoB staff. This program was successfully accredited by HEA and was delivered to the UoB academic staff in 2013. Until 2017, she was a lecturer in the PCAP-UoB program and currently she is the coordinator of the CPD program. Zainab is also active in several other committees such as the peer observation of teaching committees, and teaching enhancement committee and the organizer of the 1st Symposium on Teaching Transformation through Action Research.

Zainab is also an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, which she joined in 2001. Dr. Sawsan Karimi

Sawsan Karimi is an assistant professor of social anthropology at the University of Bahrain. Karimi is a graduate of School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where she received her M.A (1992) and PhD (2003) in Social Anthropology, specializing in the Middle East region.  She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) from University of York St.  Currently, Karimi is a CPD mentor.

Preeti Jaiswal is a lecturer and Coordinator at the English Language Centre, University of Bahrain. She has an MA in English literature from Delhi University, India and has completed CELTA, Cambridge and TESOL from Birmingham, U.K. She is a Fellow (FHEA) of the Higher Education Academy, U.K. She has twenty two years’ experience of teaching ESL, ESP and EAP courses at University of Bahrain and universities in Libya. The University of Omar Al Mukhtar, Libya published her book entitled English in Medicine: A Comprehensive Course. Currently, she is mentoring the CPD Program at University of Bahrain. Ms. Sherry Nasralla Tawfik Nasralla

Short Bio:

Sherry Nasralla has received her fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK following the completion of the CPD (Continuous Professional Development) Program in June 2017. She had previously completed the Teacher Training Program at the College of Health Sciences (CHS) in 2010. She is currently mentoring new CPD participants and looks forward to involvement in upcoming faculty development initiatives at the UoB. Sherry is an active member of several committees at the department level, including the quality assurance and curriculum committees. At the college level she is a member of the student affairs and the CHS social and cultural committees.

Sherry is a lecturer at the Pharmacy Program, Allied Health Division at the CHS, which she joined in 2005. She teaches Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy Practice courses offered to pharmacy students as well as Pharmacology for nursing students. Her research interests include exploring adverse drug reactions and toxicities. She is also a member of the Bahrain Pharmacists Society which she joined in 2010.
