UOB Publishes New Book on the Bahraini Law of Evidence

The College of Law at the University of Bahrain has announced the publication of a new book in the field of private law, authored by Dr. Wafa Yaqoob Janahi, Associate Professor of Private Law, and Dr. El Haysam Omar Selim, Assistant Professor at the College of Law.

The book provides a comprehensive commentary on the provisions of the Bahraini Law of Evidence in Civil and Commercial Matters.

Titled “Commentary on the Bahraini Law of Evidence,” the book offers an in-depth explanation of Decree-Law No. (14) of 1996 on Evidence in Civil and Commercial Matters, along with subsequent amendments introduced by Law No. (13) of 2005, Law No. (17) of 2009, Law No. (24) of 2013, and Decree-Law No. (28) of 2021. The authors also draw comparisons with the laws of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The book expands on the rules governing electronic evidence in the context of digital transactions, which have become an integral part of modern life. It also seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice by referencing relevant judicial rulings—particularly those issued by the Bahraini Court of Cassation—and linking them to the applicable legal provisions.

Spanning 425 pages and published by the University of Bahrain, the book is divided into seven chapters and written in a clear and accessible style. The authors adopt an analytical and comparative approach, referencing GCC legal systems to assist undergraduate law students in understanding the foundations of evidence in both civil and commercial contexts.

Dr. Wafa Yaqoob Janahi holds a Ph.D. in Private Law from the University of Bristol (United Kingdom, 2014), an LL.M. in Private Law from the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom, 2009), and an LL.B. from the University of Bahrain (2007).

Dr. El Haysam Omar Selim is an Assistant Professor at the College of Law, University of Bahrain. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Law (2006), LL.M. (2001), and LL.B. (1999) from Assiut University in Egypt.
