University of Bahrain Hosts Seminar on Law and the Sports Industry
Manama, Bahrain — The College of Law at the University of Bahrain organized a seminar titled “Law and the Sports Industry”, calling for legislation to protect athletes and sports institutions, and emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive professional sports law in the Kingdom.
The seminar was organized by the Department of Private Law and featured two main sessions; one on “Sports Between Law and Economics”, chaired by Dr. Hanan Mohamed Almawla, Associate Professor of Civil Law, with speakers including Dr. Nabil Taha, Director of the Bahraini Olympic Academy; Fatima Abdulhai Al-Kooheji, Head of Legal and Sports Dispute Affairs at the General Authority for Sports; and Dr. Abduljabbar Al Tayeb, Associate Professor of Public Law, who addressed the economic impact of the sports sector. The second session titled; “Resolution of International Sports Disputes”, chaired by Dr. Amal Kamel Abdullah, Associate Professor of Commercial Law, featured contributions from Nader Jalal Al Awadhi, Advisor at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs; Talal Juma Al Kaabi, Member of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission; and Fatima Al Zaid Al Jalahma, Director of Claims at the Bahrain Dispute Resolution Chamber.
The seminar fostered knowledge exchange among legal, governmental, and sports sector experts, highlighting the need for robust legal frameworks and dispute resolution mechanisms to support the growth of professional sports in Bahrain.
