RCSI Medical University of Bahrain and University of Bahrain Strengthen Strategic Partnership through Renewed Collaboration

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain and the University of Bahrain held a high-level meeting this week to reaffirm their long-standing partnership and outline ambitious plans for future collaboration.
The meeting, attended by His Excellency Dr Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain and an esteemed delegation, and Professor Cathal Kelly, Vice Chancellor, Chief Executive and Registrar of RCSI Dublin, Professor Michael Kerin, Vice President of RCSI Dublin, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain and members of the Executive Committee, focused on renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and advancing joint initiatives across key academic and research domains.
The discussions centered on shared priorities that reflect the evolving needs of higher education and healthcare in Bahrain, which included collaborative research opportunities, the need for specialized training programs in General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and positive psychology and mental health.
Further avenues of collaboration were explored in relation to digitalization strategies, and cross-disciplinary projects between faculties of IT, engineering, nursing and medical sciences. Both universities recognized the value of combining resources, expertise, and innovation to strengthen Bahrain’s academic ecosystem, while contributing to national capacity-building and impact.
Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, emphasized the significance of the renewed partnership, stating: “Our collaboration with the national university – University of Bahrain reflects our shared vision of excellence in education, research, and innovation. By expanding our joint projects under the new MoU, we are committed to reinforce our joint contribution to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national priorities. Together, we aspire to provide transformative learning opportunities, advance research and embrace digitalization as a driver of progress.”
His Excellency Dr Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, highlighted the mutual benefits of the cooperation, commenting: “The University of Bahrain is delighted to reaffirm its partnership with RCSI Medical University of Bahrain. Our discussions underscore the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration that bridges healthcare, science, and technology. By working closely together, we can harness our collective expertise to expand knowledge creation, deliver solutions that serve the Kingdom of Bahrain and foster the transfer of knowledge. This renewed agreement will enable us to pursue innovative projects and strengthen our role in advancing Bahrain’s academic and research landscape.”
The meeting underscored the strategic alignment of both institutions with Bahrain Vision 2030, reaffirming their shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and the development of human capital. By combining strengths in medicine, nursing, science, engineering and information technology, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain and the University of Bahrain are well positioned to foster innovation, prepare the next generation of leaders and position Bahrain as a hub of academic and research excellence.
