Description
- This service allows Bahraini students graduating from private schools, graduates of the Nasser Centre for Science and Technology, and Bahraini and non Bahraini students from schools from outside the Kingdom of Bahrain to submit applications for admission to University of Bahrain programs through the Student Information System website, sis.uob.edu.bh.
Target Students:
- Bahrainis and non-Bahrainis who are graduates of private schools inside the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Bahraini and non-Bahraini graduates from schools outside the Kingdom of Bahrain for the current academic year and the past academic year.
- Students of Nasser Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Center.
Service Requirements
Bahraini and non-Bahraini students must meet the following requirements for admission to undergraduate programs:

- Holds a high school diploma (from within or outside the Kingdom of Bahrain) with a minimum average of 70%, or a minimum of 66.66% for applicants with disabilities, provided that the disability is documented by an approved official certificate.
- Meet the required high school track, whether the applicant graduated from a public or private school within or outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- The applicant’s high school graduation should not be more than two years prior to the application year (i.e., the graduation year and the year immediately following).
- Must not have previously earned a bachelor’s degree from the University or any other university.
- Pay the university application fee.
- Be eligible to study in the language in which the academic program is offered.
- Submit a health fitness certificate from one of the accredited centers or hospitals in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as required by the nature of the program.
- Be of good conduct and behavior.
- Successfully complete the orientation program or be officially exempted based on the criteria outlined in this policy and in the Study and Examination Regulation.
- Pass any tests or interviews required by the college, according to the specific admission criteria, in certain programs.
- Must not have been dismissed from the University for disciplinary or academic reasons.
- Fulfill any other conditions set by the relevant authorities.
- Bahraini Secondary School Certificate in the following tracks (provided that the GPA should not be less than 70%):
Literary track, scientific track, business track, religious track, industrial developed track, business developed track, unified track, Administrative and Technological, business or industrial apprenticeship (advanced), Graduates of Nasser Centre for Science and Technology.
The University accredits certificates granted by private schools in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which are recognized by the Ministry of Education, provided that these certificates are based on twelve academic years starting from the first year of primary school. - Arab Secondary School Certificate granted by the Ministries of Education in Arab countries:This certificate shall be treated the same as the Bahraini general secondary school certificate after being approved by the competent authorities in the Ministry of Education, provided that these certificates should be based on twelve academic years starting from the first year of primary school.
- Pakistan Higher Secondary School Certificate:The University accredits the second section of this certificate only.
- India Higher Secondary School Certificate:The University accredits the Senior level of these certificates only.
Applications submitted through the Student Information System (SIS) are reviewed as follows:
- Authentication of the qualification by the Private Education Directorate at the Ministry of Education.
- Determination of the high school GPA: The GPA listed in the official letter issued by the Private Education Directorate at the Ministry of Education is adopted.
- Classification of the high school track: The student’s track is determined based on the majority of completed subjects, as follows:
- Scientific Track: if science subjects are the majority in the transcript.
- Commercial Track: if commercial subjects are the majority in the transcript.
- Literary Track: if literary subjects are the majority in the transcript.
Note: If the number of subjects is equal between two tracks, the track chosen by the student will be maintained. (For example: if the student has completed 3 science courses and 3 commercial courses, and selected the scientific track during the application process, it will be kept as is).
Applications submitted through the Student Information System (SIS) are reviewed and processed as follows:
First: Bahraini students: must submit an equivalency certificate or have their qualification authenticated by the Ministry of Education.
Second: Non-Bahraini students: must submit a certificate authenticated by the relevant authorities in the country issuing the qualification, along with all necessary attestations required by the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Third: Determination the high school GPA: The certificate is evaluated according to the following:
- If the student graduated from a country that follows the same educational system as Bahrain, the GPA stated on the certificate will be adopted.
- If the student graduated from a country that does not follow the same system, the qualification will be assessed by the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, which will submit its recommendation to the University Council for approval.
Fourth: Classification of the high school track: The high school track is determined in the same manner as for graduates of private schools within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Secondary school certificates are recognized based on the Ministry of Education’s attestation, and the GPA as evaluated by the Ministry is used for university admission purposes.
- Certificates issued either within or outside the Kingdom of Bahrain under the IB system or its equivalent are evaluated based on the percentage stated in the transcript issued by the awarding school, or by the relevant ministries, authorities, or educational institutions in the issuing country. If the percentage calculation system aligns with that used in the Kingdom of Bahrain, it will be adopted. In cases where no clear percentage is provided for the student, the conversion table below will be used.

- For all certificates issued locally or internationally (other than those specified above), are processed by calculating the percentage as follows:

To calculate the student’s nominal percentage: add up the percentages of the eight highest grades obtained by the student (provided that the courses required for each college should be calculated) and divide the total by eight.
- Exemption from the Foundation Year Program:
A student may be exempted from the Orientation Program if they achieve at least a grade C in English at the O-Level, AS-Level, or A-Level. In such cases, the student must submit an exemption request to the English Language Center for approval by the Directorate of Registration and Academic Advising.
Similarly, students holding an IB diploma or equivalent qualification are eligible for exemption if they score a minimum of 3/7 in Higher Level (HL) English or 4/7 in Standard Level (SL) English across all IB tracks. The same application process applies, requiring submission to the English Language Center and final approval by the Directorate of Registration and Academic Advising. - Course Accreditation
A student may apply for the equivalency of courses successfully completed at the Advanced Level (A-Level) with a grade of (B) or higher, to be matched with similar first-level (100-level) courses in the program to which they were admitted. The total number of equivalent credit hours must not exceed 21. These equivalent courses will not be included in the student’s GPA, and an (E) symbol will be recorded for them in the academic transcript.
In all programs, the courses eligible for equivalency must correspond to the subjects studied and passed in the A-Level system, as determined in coordination with the relevant academic departments in the colleges. The student’s equivalency request is to be submitted to the academic departments and subsequently approved by the Directorate of Registration and Academic Advising.
Students holding an International Baccalaureate (IB) or equivalent may request course equivalency for subjects passed with: a minimum score of 4/7 for Higher Level (HL) courses, and a minimum score of 5/7 for Standard Level (SL) courses. Equivalency is limited to first-year (100-level) courses in the student’s admitted program, with a maximum of 21 credit hours that may be equivalized. The equivalized courses do not count toward GPA calculation and appear with an “E” code on academic records. The courses, across all programs, eligible for equivalency with subjects studied and passed under the IB system shall be determined in coordination with the relevant academic departments within the colleges. The student’s equivalency request must first be submitted to the academic departments and subsequently approved by the Directorate of Registration and Academic Advising.

- A competitive admission rate is applied, based primarily on the high school certificate, which serves as the general criterion for accepting students into the university.
- Placement into bachelor’s degree programs is determined competitively based on the student’s high school average, the availability of seats, the order of the student’s stated preferences, and the fulfillment of the program’s specific admission requirements. In the event that all available seats in a program are filled, the remaining applicants may be placed in programs within the College of Applied Studies, provided the student has expressed interest in joining this college. A student will only be admitted to the College of Applied Studies if they have willingly chosen it—whether during the initial application period or later, during the post-admission confirmation phase (“waiting list”).
- Applicants who are not initially admitted to the University will be placed on waiting lists. These students will be offered admission if seats become available following the announcement of admission results and during the admission confirmation period.
- A student who, during the admission confirmation period, expresses a desire to change their assigned program will be considered for placement into other available programs after the confirmation period ends and after excluding applicants who have decided not to enroll at the University.
- Non-Bahraini students are treated the same as Bahraini students with regard to tuition fees if the student is either the child of a Bahraini mother or a foreign mother with a Bahraini husband.
- A scholarship student is admitted directly into the academic program specified in their scholarship letter, whether issued from within the Kingdom of Bahrain or abroad. Such students are exempt from the automated placement process and from competing with other applicants, provided they meet the admission requirements of the specified academic program.
- Students may apply for course equivalency in accordance with the provisions of Clause (III), Article (10) of the University of Bahrain’s Study and Examination Regulations.
For Applicants from Bahrainis and non-Bahrainis who graduated from Private Schools inside Kingdom of Bahrain, or Nasser Centre for Science and Technology or schools outside Kingdom of Bahrain (via the Student Information System – SIS)
- Log in to the Student Information System website sis.uob.edu.bh.
- Select the Link “UOB Admission Requests”.
- Select “Undergraduate Applications”
- Review the terms and conditions and click “ I Agree” to continue the application process.
- Enter Personal Information in the “Basic Data” tab, then press Next.
- Enter the secondary certificate information in the “Secondary School Qualification” tab, then press Next.
- Enter the contact data in the “Contact Data” tab, then press Next.
- Select desired preferences in the “Applicant Preference” tab (Preferences appears according to your high school track), then press Next.
- Upload Required Documents:
- Secondary school certificate.
- A valid ID card or proof of renewal in case of expiry (non- Bahraini).
- A copy of a valid passport or proof of renewal in case of expiry.
- A colored photograph.
- Transcript (6 semesters).
- Educational Qualification attested by the Ministry of Education (Private School Student).
- A statement of good conduct issued by the school.
- Foreign applicants residing in Bahrain, provide a copy of a valid residence permit or proof of its renewal.
- Graduation certificate and transcript from a secondary school or its equivalent.
- Private school students: A statement, graduation certificate, and transcript issued by the Ministry of Education must be attached when submitting the application, along with a statement and graduation certificate and transcript of grades from the school. Also, documents can be uploaded and data can be edited after the completion of the application process during the application period.
- Secondary school graduates from outside the Kingdom of Bahrain for Bahrainis: please obtain the graduation certificate accreditation from the Ministry of Education.
- For applicants holding Kuwaiti or Omani nationality: A no-objection letter from the cultural attaché at the relevant embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Pay Application Fees: non-refundable BD 10. The University ID will appear on the receipt.
