The Cultural and Social Committee of the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain celebrated the late Bahraini artist Mohammed bin Faris, coinciding with World Heritage Day, on Tuesday (April 15, 2025). The event featured an intellectual symposium titled “Mohammed bin Faris: The Pioneer of Bahraini Sound Art”, with presentations by Bahraini artist Ibrahim Habib, Dr. Essam Aljowder, and Khalid Khalifa.

Following the symposium, the Mohammed Bin Fares Gulf Sound Art Ensemble performed a selection of his most famous sound art songs.

The symposium aimed to promote citizenship, responsibility, Bahraini identity, and pride in the country’s history by integrating Bahraini heritage into school curricula. This aligns with royal directives to strengthen national identity and support sustainable cultural development in Bahraini folk culture.

Mohammed bin Faris bin Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa (1895–1947) was the most renowned singer of Gulf sound art. A pioneer in the field, he belonged to the founding generation of Gulf voice art in the early 20th century.
