University of Bahrain Wins “Best Educational Institution Booth” at the Garden Show with a Design Emphasizing Aesthetics and Education
President of the University of Bahrain, Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, extended congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the patron of the Bahrain International Garden Show, and to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of the King of Bahrain and Chairwoman of the Advisory Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, on the outstanding success of this year’s exhibition. He described the event as another qualitative leap for a show that continues to grow year after year.
Prof. Hamzah also congratulated the University of Bahrain committee responsible for preparing for the exhibition, as the university’s booth won the award for “Best Booth for Educational Institutions” this year. Commenting on the achievement, he said, “It is no surprise that the University of Bahrain received this award, as since its first participation in 2004, the university has consistently been honored with top prizes at this esteemed exhibition. We take pride in participating and in showcasing the scientific, design, and creative talents of our academic and administrative staff.” He praised the team spirit that characterized the committee and the dedication shown by all members to ensure a successful participation, especially given the prestigious patronage and the international reputation of the exhibition.
The university president also expressed his deep gratitude to the Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, for her continued support and follow-up on both past and present University of Bahrain participations in the Bahrain International Garden Show.
From his side, Dean of the College of Science and Chair of the University of Bahrain’s exhibition committee, Prof. Mohammed Mustafa Al-Helou, stated, “Since the launch of the Bahrain International Garden Show, the University of Bahrain has been keen to participate in this scientific, recreational, and aesthetic event, fulfilling its mission of engaging with the local community and promoting scientific and awareness-based knowledge in the field of agriculture.” He noted that the university has consistently achieved top placements in most of its participations over the past ten years, expressing hope for further success this year. He emphasized the university’s commitment to presenting scientific agricultural topics through creative and distinctive design frameworks that appeal to and gain the trust of exhibition visitors.
In the same context, Dean of the College of Engineering and supervisor of the design team, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, explained that the concept for this year’s University of Bahrain booth revolves around food safety and human health. He noted that the booth was designed using abstract shapes that include numbers and symbols representing various types of fruits and vegetables that people purchase and consume without fully understanding what those symbols mean.
Dr. Al-Ansari added, “The design team decided to transform these symbols into stacked cubes, forming a system of icons representing a variety of fruits and vegetables—ranging from genetically modified to organic.” He explained that the green platform draws visitors in from the outside and leads them through three distinct internal sections that introduce the various stages of agricultural production, from cultivation to packaging to consumption.
These sections include a variety of scientific experiments presented in innovative interactive ways, encouraging visitors to explore the facts. They also attract children with educational video games designed to raise awareness about the importance of washing vegetables and preventing diseases.
