After Earning the Confidence of the Chemical Institute of Canada: “Chemistry” at University of Bahrain Reaccredited

President of the University of Bahrain, Professor Riyad Yousif Hamzah, expressed his pride and happiness as the Chemistry Department’s programs once again earned international accreditation from the Chemical Institute of Canada. He stated that this achievement adds to the university’s growing list of international academic accreditation successes.

Professor Hamzah explained that the renewal of the Chemistry Department’s accreditation is an indication of the high standards of planning and procedures followed in the educational process to align with the requirements and standards of international academic accreditation and its outcomes. He emphasized the importance of international accreditation as “a pathway to elevating students’ academic achievement and a window for enhancing higher education practices for faculty,” praising the efforts made by university colleges in maintaining a culture of quality.

Dean of the College of Science at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Hashim Ahmed Al-Sayed, announced the renewed international confidence in the Chemistry programs, saying, “This indicates that the college continues to uphold high standards of proficiency and quality according to international criteria.” He added that “the Chemistry Department has implemented a series of measures and continuously developed its practices in updating courses, programs, and curricula to meet the academic requirements of global universities.”

For his part, Head of the Chemistry Department, Professor Mohammed Al-Arab, stated that the Chemistry programs at the University of Bahrain have once again proven their merit in gaining international confidence due to the indicators and benchmarks achieved at both the program and outcome levels. He explained that the department fulfilled all required standards to gain accreditation and provided reports confirming implementation of the recommendations issued by the institute when it first granted accreditation in 2009.

Professor Al-Arab added that the Chemistry Department has once again earned the confidence of the Chemical Institute of Canada, noting that the newly granted international accreditation is valid for the next five years (2015–2020).

The University of Bahrain’s Quality Assurance Center is working to ensure that 70% of the university’s programs achieve accreditation by 2019, in accordance with the 2014–2019 strategic plan. In this context, university colleges have intensified efforts to implement the recommendations of the National Authority for Qualifications and Quality Assurance of Education and Training.

It is worth mentioning that the Chemistry Department was the first at the University of Bahrain to receive international accreditation, which it earned from the same Canadian institute in 2009.
