Prof. Hamzah: UOB Establishes Cutting-Edge Clinical Simulation Lab for Nursing Sciences

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, announced the launch of a new clinical simulation laboratory at the University’s College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS).

Prof. Hamzah stated: “This project represents a qualitative leap in nursing education, aligning with sector advancements to propel Bahrain’s nursing field forward. The laboratory will train nursing cadres to the highest international standards through clinical simulation-based curricula.”

He added: “The lab aligns with UoB’s development plan and global scientific progress in nursing sciences. It bridges the gap between theoretical study and practical application before students engage with real patients in hospitals.”

Dr. Leena Mohammad Khonji, Head of CHSS’s Nursing Department and project lead, emphasized: “This pioneering initiative addresses modern educational needs in nursing training. The lab will create a semi-realistic virtual environment to enhance healthcare outcomes, student training, and practical skill development using advanced technologies.”

She explained: “The lab will feature simulation devices to develop clinical skills, improve patient safety, and strengthen critical thinking and decision-making. Equipped with hospital beds, diagnostic tools, and audiovisual monitoring systems, it will use high-resolution virtual patients for scenario-based training, with live-streamed sessions in digital rooms.”

Dr. Khonji concluded: “This platform will also host clinical exams, refining students’ skills and case evaluation accuracy before their real-world training in Bahrain’s hospitals and medical centers.”
