University of Bahrain Hosts Stroke Awareness Campaign

The Government Hospitals, in collaboration with the College of Health and Sports Sciences at the University of Bahrain, organized the ‘Be Fast’ stroke awareness campaign on Tuesday, at the university’s Sakhir campus.

Nurses from the Government Hospitals, alongside nursing students from the College’s Nursing Department, educated attendees on stroke causes, types, prevention methods, and warning signs. They also addressed common misconceptions about strokes often shared on social media.

The campaign included a lecture on stroke risks and the treatment options available at government hospitals for stroke patients. The lecture also highlighted a concerning rise in stroke cases, emphasizing its significance as a major public health issue in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Strokes rank as the third leading cause of death in the country, following heart disease and cancer.

During the campaign, participants demonstrated rehabilitation exercises for stroke patients and displayed educational materials, including illustrations of brain damage and stroke-related disabilities. Brochures and health pamphlets were also distributed to raise awareness. Additionally, nurses provided free health screenings, checking blood sugar and blood pressure levels for attendees.

This awareness campaign was launched, in collaboration between the University of Bahrain and the Government Hospitals, as part of their ongoing efforts to promote public health education and enhance community wellbeing.
