UOB Celebrates Cultural Diversity and Emphasizes Mutual Respect Between Cultures

Academics at the University of Bahrain emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and respect between cultures as a driving force for peace and sustainable development during a seminar titled “The Role of Foreign Languages in Cultural Sustainability and Diversity,” the event celebrated the World Day for Cultural Diversity, observed annually on May 21.

 

The seminar highlighted the profound dimensions of language as a tool of communication, a bridge of understanding, a means to preserve cultural heritage in a rapidly changing world, a way to understand cultural contexts, interact with human heritage, and strive for cultural sustainability based on mutual respect and shared knowledge.

 

The seminar featured participation from the Department of English Language and Literature at the College of Arts, University of Bahrain, including Dr. Qusai Anwar Al-Debyan and Dr. Sara Abdulla Bader. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Ghada Ahmed Jassim, Chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature.

 

On the sidelines of the seminar, an exhibition was held under the theme “World Day for Cultural Diversity,” which aimed to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of respecting and appreciating different cultures, thus contributing to the consolidation of the values of peaceful coexistence within society.
