“Tree Week” Reflects Commitment to Instilling Values of Environmental Sustainability

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma, the Minister of Education and Chairman of the University of Bahrain’s Board of Trustees, expressed his appreciation for the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in launching this year’s “Tree Week” initiative. The initiative aims to promote environmental awareness and encourage the adoption of eco-friendly practices. His Excellency also noted HRH’s directive to hold an innovation competition for irrigation solutions, which seeks to encourage creative ideas and solutions that contribute to developing modern irrigation techniques and expanding their networks in public areas. This supports the afforestation plan, increases green spaces, and enhances water resource sustainability and innovation in green development fields.
This came during the Minister of Education’s participation in the tree-planting event organized at the University of Bahrain campus, in the presence of Board of Trustees members.
His Excellency the Minister emphasized that organizing this event underscores the University of Bahrain’s active contribution to instilling the values of environmental sustainability among students and enhancing their awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and preserving natural resources. He noted that “Tree Week” is an opportunity to embed these principles across various educational stages, highlighting the University’s commitment to adopting programs and initiatives that support sustainable development paths in the Kingdom.
He also pointed out the importance of concerted efforts to achieve the goals of the national afforestation plan, which aims to triple the number of trees to 3.6 million by 2035. This supports the Kingdom of Bahrain’s endeavors to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
