UOB Pilots “Reading Clinics” in Local Schools to Tackle Student Literacy Challenges

The University of Bahrain has successfully implemented a pilot program introducing “Reading Clinics” in four Bahraini schools, a novel initiative designed to identify and address reading difficulties among students through targeted interventions.

The pilot program, which ran during the 2023-2024 academic year, involved a collaborative effort between the University and the participating schools. Dr. Samia Elbassiouny was a contributor to the project, lending her expertise to the design of the clinic model, training the teachers involved, and evaluating the program’s effectiveness.

Reading Clinics provide a supportive framework where educators can diagnose specific reading challenges and implement tailored strategies to help students improve their literacy skills. This evidence-based approach moves beyond traditional methods to offer personalized support.

The initiative has strengthened ties between the University and the community while directly supporting national educational goals and the global commitment to quality education.
