UOB Promotes ‘Eat Consciously, Live Balanced’ for World Food Day
The Health and Sport Sciences College Society at the University of Bahrain celebrated World Food Day, under the theme “Eat Consciously, Live Balanced,” in collaboration with the Nutrition Department at the Ministry of Health.
The celebration aimed to raise students’ nutritional awareness and introduce them to the importance of mindful eating, which is based on paying attention to food choices and appreciating the relationship between diet and physical and mental health. The event featured interactive educational booths and diverse activities that allowed students to learn about basic food groups, methods for balancing food portions, and ways to choose healthy foods suitable for different lifestyles.
This initiative is part of the global celebration of World Food Day, which falls on October 16 each year and aims to promote food security and sustainable nutrition, highlighting the importance of healthy food systems in achieving human development and community well-being.
Participants from the Ministry of Health and students from the Nutrition Department also provided practical experiments and scientific advice on how to read food labels, monitor calories, and avoid unhealthy eating habits. They emphasized that proper nutrition is a fundamental pillar for maintaining human health and preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.
The Society affirmed that such events help spread nutritional culture among youth and promote individual responsibility towards health. It noted that nutritional awareness is not limited to food choices alone but also includes attention to eating habits, cooking methods, and balancing physical activity with a healthy diet.
