UOB Enhances Its Partnership with WHO by Contributing to Regional Health Policies

The University of Bahrain maintains ongoing membership in the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centers Network for the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Since 2020, this partnership has enabled the university to contribute directly to health workforce development and policy formulation, providing direct support for the Sustainable Development Goals related to health and partnerships.

Through this partnership, UOB experts have directly influenced critical regional health initiatives. Key engagements include a July 2025 meeting to co-develop strategies for ethical health worker recruitment and a September 2025 consultative meeting to support policy design for advanced health-profession education aligned with WHO standards.

In August 2025, the university contributed to the WHO Regional Director’s flagship initiative by helping identify national priorities for a resilient health workforce. Earlier, in 2021, UOB led the submission of Bahrain’s national input to shape the WHO’s global nursing and midwifery strategy for 2021–2025.

This ongoing engagement has strengthened multi-level partnerships with the WHO and regional health ministries, advancing evidence-informed policymaking and contributing directly to regional frameworks for a sustainable and resilient health workforce.
