UOB and Public Prosecution Host Forum on Forensic Evidence

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain (UOB), emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting national initiatives that contribute to the development of legal knowledge and the graduation of qualified cadres who keep pace with the requirements of criminal justice. He expressed his pride in the institutional partnership between the University and the Public Prosecution, highlighting the importance of the forum’s themes, which brought together legal knowledge and practical application.

This came in a speech delivered by the University President during his participation in the forum titled: “Rights and Forensic Evidence: Towards Enhancing Criminal Justice.” During the forum, experts and legal professionals from the UOB’s College of Law discussed the latest developments and contemporary challenges in the field of physical evidence, the legal and technical dimensions of sample examination, and their impact on achieving criminal justice.

The forum, organized by the College of Law at UOB in cooperation with the Forensic Evidence department at the Public Prosecution, aimed to enhance institutional and research integration between the two sides, link academia with practical application, review scientific challenges in the field of physical evidence examination, and highlight the contributions of forensic medicine, toxicology and drug analysis, and the latest developments in examination techniques.

The first session featured: Dr. Kamal Mohammed Al Saadani, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department, Public Prosecution, addressed the role of forensic medicine in legal proof. Ahlam Khudayr Al Majed, Head of Criminal Laboratories (A) in the Forensic Evidence Department of the Public Prosecution, discussed the latest developments in the examination of toxins and drugs and their impact on ensuring the accuracy of analyses and results. Aqeela Salman Abuidrees, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Allied Health at UOB’s College of Health and Sport Sciences, presented a paper on the scientific, technical, and procedural foundations for dealing with crime scenes and collecting and preserving evidence obtained from them. The session was moderated by Dr. Basem Mohammed AlSharji, Assistant Professor of Criminal Law at the College of Law, UOB.

The second session featured: Yusuf Hamzah Muqabalah, Physics and Forensic Science Expert in the Physical Evidence Department of the Public Prosecution, who spoke about the scientific and technical foundations for sample analysis and their judicial significance. Noura Abdullah Al Hamad, Head of Criminal Laboratories (B) in the same Department, addressed the skills for preparing and drafting scientific examination reports, as well as genetic fingerprinting and its legal authority. The session was moderated by Dr. Mohamed Hammad Alheetiy, Associate Professor of Criminal Law at the College of Law, UOB.
