UOB Hosts Cambridge Expert for Seminar on Cellular Flow Modelling

The College of Science at the University of Bahrain (UOB) hosted Prof. Eric Lauga, a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College, in a seminar entitled “Mathematical Modelling of Cellular Flows”.

During the seminar, Professor Lauga presented the latest work from his research group, which aims to develop mathematical models that simulate fluid flows within cells. This includes flows that occur naturally in living cells and those induced by external means in artificial environments.

The event was attended by a number of faculty members and students interested in the fields of applied mathematics and biophysics. It provided participants with an opportunity to learn about the applications of mathematical modelling in the study of microscopic biological phenomena.

Notably, the Mathematics Department at UOB intends to launch a new Master’s program in Modeling and Simulation in the upcoming academic year. The program will be interdisciplinary, combining mathematical sciences and computer science to solve real-world problems. Its aim is to introduce students to the use of mathematical sciences for building models representing systems arising from a wide range of disciplines. These models serve as the foundation for computer simulations, which can be used both as an exploratory method to study the behavior of systems and processes for a deeper understanding of their mechanisms, and as a tool to support administrative and technical decision-making.
