President of the University of Bahrain Discusses Enhancing Academic Cooperation with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Colorado School of Mines
Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, received Professor Dr. Jennifer Miskimins, President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Head of the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines in the United States of America. She was accompanied by several members of the Board of Directors of the SPE Bahrain Section, in addition to a number of professionals from local oil and gas companies.
During the meeting, participants discussed ways to enhance awareness of the petroleum and gas engineering specialization and its importance, through supporting the oil and gas course included in the Chemical Engineering program. They also explored opportunities to further develop the SPE student chapter, which was established approximately six years ago. The meeting also addressed ways to benefit from the Society of Petroleum Engineers as an international organization specialized in the transfer of advanced technologies in the oil and gas sector.
The participants agreed to strengthen cooperation and leverage the expertise of the Society and the prestigious Colorado School of Mines, in a manner that contributes to building an academic, professional, and industrial partnership. This partnership aims to support the development of petroleum and energy engineering programs in line with global transformations, enhance applied scientific research linked to industry, and contribute to the development of Bahraini competencies in the oil and gas sector.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain; Dr. Mohammed bin Shams, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department and Academic Advisor of the SPE Student Chapter at the University of Bahrain; and Maya Owais, President of the SPE Student Chapter at the University of Bahrain.
