University of Bahrain Organizes Training Workshops on Enterprise Risk Management

The University of Bahrain recently organized three online training workshops titled “Enterprise Risk Management,” with the participation of over 90 academic and administrative staff members representing various colleges and departments across the university. The workshops were held as part of the implementation of the university’s risk management policy, approved by the University Council.

Participants learned about the importance of risk management across the key areas of challenges, control, protection, and growth. They also explored the concept of risk and its positive and negative impacts.

The workshops introduced the University of Bahrain’s risk management policy, based on the international risk management standard ISO 31000:2018. Key topics included the steps of risk management and various risk classifications, such as academic, financial, technical, administrative/operational, and reputational risks. Additionally, the organizational structure for risk management at the university was presented.

The workshops were delivered by Dr. Wael Mohamed Attia, Chair of the Central Risk Management Committee and Director of IT and Digital Learning, and Dr. Raed Ebrahim AlJowder, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering. They addressed the most frequently asked questions regarding risk management and responded to participants’ inquiries.

The workshops were organized by the University’s Central Risk Management Committee in coordination with the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL), aiming to promote a culture of enterprise risk management and to equip risk management coordinators across colleges and departments with the knowledge to implement the university’s policy in this area, contributing to the enhancement of institutional governance and the achievement of the university’s strategic objectives.
