University of Bahrain Holds Specialized Workshop for IT Academics
The University of Bahrain held a specialized workshop for faculty members of the College of Information Technology on Monday and Wednesday (September 14 and 16, 2026), titled “Teaching and Assessing Essential Skills.” The workshop was organized by the University’s Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership.
The workshop focused on strategies for teaching and assessing six core personal skills: communication, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, ethics, and innovation and entrepreneurship, in order to support students and equip them with the skills required in the job market.
Academics from the College of Information Technology were trained on methods for integrating these skills into their classrooms and on how to ensure students acquire them through course content, as well as on approaches for measuring and assessing these skills. The academics were also trained on drafting assessment criteria to measure these skills across various university educational activities.
At the conclusion of the second and final day of the workshop, each participant presented a mini-project showcasing the changes they would make to their course to integrate the skills gained from the workshop, along with the mechanisms for measuring them in the teaching process and verifying that students have acquired them.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Mesfer Mubarak Al-Muhannadi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at the College of Business Administration, University of Bahrain.
