University of Bahrain Holds Training Workshop to Support Students of Determination
The University of Bahrain held a training workshop on Thursday, 24 September 2026, titled “Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Its Application in Inclusive Education.” The workshop is part of a comprehensive training program to support students of determination at the University.
The workshop was organized by the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL), in cooperation with the University’s Committee for the Support of Students of Determination and Special Needs.
It introduced the Universal Design for Learning framework as a proactive approach to building flexible learning environments that accommodate the diversity of learners. Participants learned the framework’s three principles: multiple means of engagement, multiple means of representation, and multiple means of action and expression. They also explored how to apply these principles to remove barriers for learners at the design stage rather than addressing them afterwards.
The workshop focused on practical application in the university context. It aimed to clarify the UDL concept and its three guiding principles, link these principles to the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs, and apply UDL strategies to design accessible, flexible activities, materials, and assessment methods. Participants also reviewed their teaching practices and adapted them to reduce barriers to learning.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Fatema Mohamed Al-Malki, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Bahrain.
