University of Bahrain Holds Workshop on “Audit Smarter: Mastering Risk-Based Approaches”

The University of Bahrain, represented by the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL), organized a workshop titled “Audit Smarter: Mastering Risk-Based Approaches” on 7-8 May 2025, in celebration of Internal Audit Awareness Month.

The workshop was led by Ms. Huda Yusuf, Executive Director of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) and Internal Audit. It brought together the Internal Audit team and representatives from Security, Procurement, and the Colleges of Engineering and Business.

The sessions explored how risk-based auditing is evolving under the 2024 IIA Standards, the COSO ERM framework, and national audit requirements. Topics included building a risk-aligned audit universe and scoping engagements according to their strategic risk impact. The workshop emphasized audit planning that provides timely insight rather than after-the-fact assurance alone.

The workshop aimed to strengthen institutional audit capabilities and promote modern risk management practices. The cross-functional participation reflects the University’s commitment to fostering a risk-aware culture and positioning internal audit as a strategic enabler.
