Seminar Explores Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) from Medical and Educational Perspectives

A scientific seminar at the University of Bahrain highlighted attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), discussing its medical, diagnostic, educational, psychological, and social dimensions. It also reviewed ways to support students living with the disorder, empower their families, and raise public awareness of its nature and the importance of early detection and intervention.

The seminar, organized by the Vice President for Partnerships and Development Office, covered five themes: the medical and diagnostic framework of the disorder; its educational and academic aspects; the role of the community and specialized associations in providing psychological support; family and personal experiences; and an open discussion to answer attendees’ questions.

The themes covered the neurological nature of the disorder, its diagnostic criteria, the importance of early intervention, and the role of integrated pharmacological and behavioral treatment. They also addressed the academic challenges and learning difficulties associated with ADHD, as well as ways to create inclusive, stimulating learning environments in schools and universities, adapt curricula, and develop teaching strategies that meet students’ needs.

A number of experts and specialists took part. Prof. Ahmed Al-Ansari, consultant psychiatrist and President of the Bahrain ADHD Society, addressed the community theme, while Dr. Esraa Al-Mulla, Assistant Professor of Educational Studies at the Mohammed Jaber Al-Ansari College for Teachers, addressed the academic and educational theme. Nursing specialist Sawsan Salman addressed the medical theme, and Hawraa Al-Musawi shared her experience as the parent of a child with ADHD. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Syed Salah Alawi, Assistant Professor of Educational Studies at the same college
