ACEN Concludes Review of UOB’s Nursing Program, Commends Excellence and Standards Compliance

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), USA, has recently concluded its review of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the University of Bahrain (UOB).

Dr. Keri Nunn-Ellison, Senior Director at ACEN, commended the Nursing Program at UOB for its high level of excellence, strong compliance with accreditation standards, and the remarkable engagement of students and graduates, noting their deep sense of professional loyalty. She also praised the diverse expertise of the faculty members, which enhances the program’s overall strength. Dr. Ellison emphasized that these qualities reflect the program’s commitment to delivering specialized academic education aligned with the needs of the healthcare labor market.

UOB President Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari held a meeting with the ACEN delegation in early October 2025 to review the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the College of Health and Sport Sciences. He highlighted the importance of international accreditation in improving the quality of academic programs, noting the university’s continuous efforts to develop curricula and strengthen confidence among students and employers in the educational system.

Dr. Al-Ansari stated, “Achieving accreditation for all University of Bahrain programs and curricula has been one of the strategic goals the university has pursued over the past years.”

The ACEN delegation conducted interviews with stakeholders involved in the nursing program, including graduates and unit directors. The team also visited clinical training sites for nursing students across healthcare institutions, government hospitals, and primary healthcare centers.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hessa Jassim Al-Junaid, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Esra Ahmed Wali, Vice President for Partnerships and Development; Dr. Leena Mohammad Khonji, Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences; and Dr. Sh. Fay Abdulla Mohammed Alkhalifa, Director of the Quality Assurance Center, and Dr. Magda Mohamed Bayoumi, Head of the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sports Sciences

from UOB.

The review team included Dr. Keri Ellison, Senior Director at ACEN, along with committee members Dr. Cynthia Gilbert and Dr. Wafa’a Ta’an.
