UOB Allows High School Graduates of The Past Two Years to Submit Their Applications

The Deanship of Admission and Registration at the University of Bahrain (UOB) announced the opening of registration for high school graduates of the past two years (2017/2018) and (2018/2019) who wish to enroll, indicating that this will be available to students from public and private schools and Nasser Vocational Training Center.

The Deanship stated that the registration process will be available through the electronic student service website (sis.uob.edu.bh), starting from next Sunday (19 July 2020) to the following Sunday (26 July 2020).

Also, the Deanship cautioned that one of the conditions for joining the University is that the applicant has a high school diploma or its equivalent with a GPA of no less than 70%, and that the applicant should not be enrolled in any other higher education institution in case he was accepted in UOB.

Indicating that the National University does not accept its undergraduates to enroll in the same level of degree nor students who were dismissed from it.

UOB stated that it decided not to conduct the general aptitude test and the interviews that it used to organize annually exceptionally this year due to the conditions that the world is going through due to the Corona virus pandemic, indicating that the competitive rate will be the GPA of high school or its equivalent.

Regarding the selection of majors, the Deanship indicated that the selection and order of programs should correspond with the type of general secondary school certificate (literature, science, commercial, industry, unified tracks), noting that the comparison between applicants for admission in the different academic programs are based on the applicant’s fulfillment of admission requirements and the academic program’s capacity.

Also, the Deanship of Admission called on all students wishing to join the University to log on to UOB’s website (www.uob.edu.bh), and to follow its accounts on social networks to know admission requirements and to review the instructions and the required supporting documents, and it warned that applicants will be able to amend their choices during the application period, through the student service website, in addition to the possibility of uploading documents or editing their data until the 15th of August 2020.

The President of UOB Honors the Director of "Confucius"

The President of the University of Bahrain (UOB), Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, expressed his thanks and gratitude for the cultural contributions made by the Director of the Confucius Institute and for the efforts she made during her administration of the Institute. This came during a farewell ceremony for the Director of the Confucius Institute, Dr. Wu Choi Yin, whose term of administration of the institute at UOB was over.

The President of UOB appreciated the cultural activity offered by the Institute to the university students, stating that “Hundreds of students and employees joined the Institute’s courses, which have contributed to enhancing the presence of the Chinese language and its culture among the people of Bahrain, as the language is a window to know cultures and a way to achieve mutual benefit between civilizations.” Thanking UOB and its administration for their continuous support for the Institute’s activities.

The Confucius Institute opens ten classes every semester benefiting about 300 students at UOB, in addition to various cultural activities during the academic year.

The farewell ceremony was attended by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Graduate Studies at UOB and the Institute's Director on the Bahraini side, Prof. Waheeb Essa Al-Naser.

It is worth noting that the Confucius Institute at UOB was established in April of 2014 and has been active since its inauguration in teaching the Chinese language through courses for university students and courses for those wishing to study the language for assigned learners from the country’s ministries and institutions.

UOB Business Incubator Center Establishes A Program for Students Through MS Teams

 

With the participation of a number of specialists and experts in various disciplines in commerce, marketing, information technology, and design, the Business Incubator Center at the University of Bahrain (UOB) established a summer program for students through MS Teams application in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Director of the Business Incubator Center, Dr. Esra Ahmed Wali stated that "The program lasted for eight weeks and included weekly sessions and workshops, in which the participating students had the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills to build their own projects." Noting that the goal of this program goes beyond business development, to entrepreneurship and acquiring skills that enable students to establish their own startups.

She explained that the program included students from all disciplines, who were divided into different teams according to the following majors: business administration, marketing, program development, design, science, and engineering, while team members assumed the following roles: chief executive officer, chief business officer, chief marketing officer, chief technology officer, as well as chief design officer, noting that four speakers participated in the first week of the program, during which they presented their own experiences for students’ benefit.

The director of programs at the "Brink" Business Accelerator, Marwa Al-Iskafi, spoke about the methods of choosing the idea of ??the project, some of which can be related to the entrepreneur’s hobbies or interests, or a problem that people face in their daily life and he wants to solve from many aspects. Emphasizing the importance of determining the return from the project, whether material or related to social responsibility and community service.

Also, the Co-Founder of the "Malaeb" application, Yasser Abdulaziz, shared his experience in establishing his own project, which started as a problem he wanted to solve. Pointing out that he was not able to manage the project individually, so he sought help from a number of people in different disciplines and fields, referring to the stages of the project's development since the idea was found, to its implementation and up to the project's continuity.

Data specialist at the "Ila" bank - Bahrain branch - Esraa Al-Shammari stressed the importance of data science in entrepreneurship in various fields and disciplines, such as banks, hospitals, and others. Indicating ways to make use of the information available in various traditional or modern media outlets on social media programs and stressing the importance of such data in ensuring the development and continuity of the project.

The CEO of "Infinite Wear", Ameen Al-Tajer, explained the differences between data science, artificial intelligence, and machine science, and how an entrepreneur can benefit from them in his project, giving vivid examples of different projects that used these sciences and achieved success.

After the session, the students formed different teams, and each group set an idea for a project, along with its goal and possible solutions to the problems that they might encounter during its implementation.

UOB Organizes an Orientation Day for High School Graduates

In line with the precautionary measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain in light of the Corona pandemic (Covid-19), the University of Bahrain (UOB) announced the organization of a remote orientation day for high school graduates, on Wednesday and Thursday (1-2 July 2020), using the Microsoft Teams Live platform.

The orientation day aims to introduce high school graduates to the majors and programs available at UOB and what students need in each major, to familiarize them with the specializations that they are about to choose at university.

The Department of Media and University Relations has devoted the first day (Wednesday) to the presentations of the programs of the theoretical education colleges, namely, the College of Law, the College of Information Technology, the College of Business, and Bahrain Teachers College, in addition to the presentation of the English Language Center, and the presentation will start from ten to eleven thirty in the morning.

The following day (Thursday) was as well devoted the presentations of applied education colleges, namely, the College of Arts, the College of Health and Sports Sciences, the College of Engineering, the College of Science, then the College of Applied Education, in addition to the presentation of the English Language Center.

It is worth noting that the Department of Information and University Relations at UOB has for many years arranged for meetings with students of the final year of high school to introduce them to the University programs in general and colleges programs in particular.

Rumors of A "Black Market" For Summer Classes Seats

What Was Reported Is Contrary to Reality and Logic and It’s Offensive to The Reputation of the University and Its History

 The University of Bahrain (UOB) definitively denied the allegations of on the website of a local newspaper about the existence of a "black market" between students for summer classes seats.

The University confirmed in its comment on this rumor that the laws and regulations in force since UOB was established are the only ones that govern all procedures, which are based on equal opportunities and fairness among all students, and therefore it is neither logical nor realistic to talk about (selling seats) as if it is in a market.

Furthermore, the University statement stated that "What was reported from this press site is completely contrary to reality and logic, because any cancellation by the student of his seat for any reason whatsoever will absolutely not transfer this seat to another student of his choosing, because the process is done according to a tight electronic system, which gives priority to applicants according to the academic hours they spent and to how early they apply.”

The University expressed its great astonishment at how people followed such offensive rumors of a long-standing national academic institution, based on flimsy information circulating on some social media sites and not in line with reality or with the system applied at the University, claiming to "observe a black market" among students, without checking the validity of this information that any sound mind would not accept, and without checking with the University itself.

The University concluded its statement saying that as far as it highly appreciates the role of the press and the media, it is always ready to provide correct information and respond to the inquiries of all media outlets and newspapers in accordance with the requirements of the national duty. Also, it expressed how unfortunate it is for such an offense to be made towards an ancient national academic institution from which tens of thousands of students have graduated, and still are, who shall be responsible of building and developing the nation. Therefore, the University does not accept that its students, who represent our national elite and on whom we depend, are described with such inappropriate characterizations.

Forbes magazine praised the pioneering of the University of Bahrain (UOB) in the application of BlockChain technology.

The famous magazine published an article on its website entitled “The Saudi Central Bank Leads the Way with BlockChain Supported Transfer,” described the experience of the University of Bahrain (UOB) as a pioneer in the Middle East region and called for the world to pay attention to it and benefit from it.

The article was published on Wednesday (8 June 2020) and stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain was a forerunner in the application of the BlockChain technology and is a pioneer in this field. As the regulators in the Kingdom of Bahrain were quick to introduce a new system for crypto-assets and work closely with the financial services sector and the government to attract BlockChain expertise from around the world. Also, the article pointed out that UOB took advantage of this technology by issuing notarized diploma certificates.

Moreover, in April of last year 2019, UOB celebrated the delivery of more than 100 digital certificates issued by the BlockChain platform to students inside and outside of UOB.

As UOB has adopted blockchain technology and became one of the first educational bodies regionally to issue certificates to its graduates through this technology, which strengthened the University's leadership and reflected its adoption of modern technologies in various aspects of its operations and academic programs.

Also, it is now possible to achieve greater safety and verify the authenticity of academic certificates granted by UOB via the Internet in an easy and accessible way, and from anywhere in the world, without the need to refer to the University or any other party to verify its credibility. As this technology guarantees the issuance of notarized digital academic certificates that are unfraudulent and can be easily sent and shared with employers and universities, which provides institutions and individuals with lifetime ownership of their certificates, without the need for a program from the supplier that requires registration and verification.

These steps come within the framework of the digital transformation witnessed by the institutions of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as it attaches great importance to technology and its role in enhancing its economic growth, creating quality job opportunities, and raising human development rates for a better life for everyone.

The President of the University of Bahrain (UOB), Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, confirmed that the National University continues its scientific and research output and holds sober scientific conferences in cooperation with various organizations, noting that the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic have not prevented the University from proceeding with its plans to revitalize scientific research and hold virtual local and global conferences through electronic communication.

Prof. Hamzah indicated that national and regional research priorities are of interest and they consist most of the topics of University conferences and seminars, such as renewable energy research, water and food security, smart sustainable cities, artificial and information intelligence, and e-learning.

Also, the University President stated that "The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research is preparing to organize six scientific conferences in the next semester of the academic year 2020-2021 in cooperation with colleges and several international professional organizations" noting that such conferences are held in cooperation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Moreover, the University President urged all its affiliates to keep pace with the scientific developments and methods of research fields that provide solutions to industrial processes and daily life problems and contribute to innovations and creations.

For his part, the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Mohammed Redha Qadir, explained that the first of the six events that the University is organizing will be in September, which is when the “Smart Cities Forum” will be held, followed in October by the “International Conference on Business and Industrial Data Analysis... Towards a Sustainable Economy ".

He further stated that “while in November the “International Conference on Decision Aid Applications” will be held, followed by two conferences in December, one of which is the “International Conference on Innovation, Information Intelligence, Computing and Technologies,” and the other is the “Sixth International Conference on E-learning.” Noting that all these conferences will be held through visual communication and will be indexed scientifically, as the number of participants in one conference will not be less than 120 participants.

The President of the University of Bahrain (UOB), Dr. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, congratulated the University’s academics and students on the occasion of the end of the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic year.

Stating that "The challenge imposed by the current circumstances witnessed by the whole world has shown many potentials and opportunities, represented in mainly examining digital education in the work of this chapter."

Also, the President of UOB indicated that what has been achieved at the University is a "success story" in which professors and students alike participated, with great support, and tireless work from the E-Learning Center which is responsible for the Black Board platform and the Information Technology Center that is in charge of the MS Teams platform.

Furthermore, Dr. Hamzah stated that "The academic staff has shown unrivaled enthusiasm for the shift from regular education to digital education, and many of them have created methods that suit the nature of the courses they present. During which, according to statistics, UOB students showed high commitment despite knowing that the atmosphere of studying in a regular classroom is different from watching lectures at home or remotely, stressing that “This experience that the education sector all over the world was forced to go through, opened wide doors for investment in digital learning and technology.”

Also, he stressed that UOB has benefited a lot from this experience, and shall continue to take steps towards enhancing digital education and continuously improving it through its interaction with the observations of professors and students.

On her part, Director of the E-Learning Center, Dr. Fay Abdullah Al Khalifa, stated that: “The statistics we obtained after the end of the second semester indicate the extensive use of many components of digital education, in terms of the number of lectures, attendance hours, creation of digital courses, exchanged messages, video hours, and other components, whether on Blackboard or MS Teams, stressing that these statistics are similar to their counterparts in the statistics of other international universities, and may sometimes surpass them.

She further added "Without going too much into the details shown by the statistics, the number of students who benefited from digital learning and interacted with it reached 22,400 students, while all the academic staff at the University of 868 professors used digital learning in various forms, including broadcasting, recording, presentations, meetings, correspondence with students, recordings and audio broadcasts, and other various means provided by the two platforms used at UOB. Also, 4,625 courses were presented during this period, and the attendance rate exceeded 90% in e-courses, with an attendance period for lectures, and an active interaction by both sides of the educational learning process. "

Moreover, Dr. Fay Al Khalifa stressed that “The E-Learning Center has expanded with the presence of digital learning for the second semester that ended days ago, as well as for the future, as it captured and documented many clinical and laboratory experiments in the Colleges of Science and the College of Engineering, and it continues to document and record what needs to be documented in the rest of the faculties and parts of the University,". Noting at the same time that the Center is in continuous contact with regional and international universities to exchange experiences and have the best implemented ones, either through individual communication or by participating in digital conferences and forums that are widely held these days to study different experiences."

Also, the Director of the E-Learning Center indicated that the experience of UOB received great praise and appreciation in the electronic workshop organized by the British Council in the middle of last month. In which many international universities participated, and the University College London - one of the oldest British universities - praised the steps taken by UOB and the results achieved by its digital education experience.

The University of Bahrain (UOB) announced the results of the second semester of the academic year 2019/2020, as the results of more than 25,200 thousand students were sent by e-mail.

Acting Dean of Admission and Registration Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Ansari stated that the process of sending the results was successful, and a large number of students were able to view their results as soon as they were announced, while a small number of students needed technical assistance in reactivating their official e-mail accounts, to obtain the results, which can also be viewed through UOB’s application.

Also, he indicated that students who want their results to be reviewed can apply for that from 17 to 23 June 2020, as the results of the grievance will be announced later this month.

Furthermore, Dr. Al-Ansari stressed the importance of the student’s communication with the “Student Service Center”, which started its service in September 2019, as it actively helps students in their observations and inquiries that are related to a large percentage of them on admission and registration processes, announcing results and receiving other services from the Deanship through various ways of communication, and answer them in record time.

Student Affairs at UOB Launches A Package of Remote Programs and Events

The Deanship of Student Affairs at the University of Bahrain (UOB) announced the launch of a package of remote programs and events presented by specialists and mentors in several fields, noting that it has updated its website to include new services and programs.

The Dean of Student Affairs at the University, Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Maliki, stated that “The Deanship is keen to continue providing the services and programs that it has always provided throughout the academic year, and it has worked to contain the student from all psychological, social, cultural, sports and artistic aspects, by organizing a package of activities and programs.".

Moreover, Dr. Al-Maliki indicated that these programs come as well within the framework of encouraging students to commit to staying at home and helping them to make the most of their time, in light of the current health conditions, and in adherence to the directives of the National Task Force for Combating the Coronavirus for distance work and learning and the commitment to stay at home.

According to the Dean, the programs included a set of counseling and awareness lectures (psychological and social) provided by social specialists and workers in the Guidance and Counseling Department at the Deanship, in addition to sports, cultural and artistic courses, lectures, and workshops.

The Deanship organized a course entitled: “Mental Training and the Mindset of a Sports Champion” presented by the Director of the Sports Development Department at the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Dr. Nabeel Taha, and a lecture entitled: “Skills of Dealing with the Psychological Effects of the Coronavirus Crisis” presented by Director of Guidance and Counseling Department, Sameera Ahmed Al-Bastaki.

Also, it organized a set of artistic competitions, such as drawing, calligraphy, painting, and photography competitions for the fine arts club and the photography club, and a chess competition for the chess club.

In addition, the Deanship of Student Affairs launched a competition entitled: "Your Home ... The World's Studio", which includes a set of competitions in the fields of theater, visual arts, and music, as well as cultural and sports competitions that were presented throughout the current month of Ramadan, and a number of artistic training courses for the music club, the fine arts club and the theater club, in addition to virtual art exhibitions such as the Photography Club Gallery and the Fine Arts Club Gallery, and other student programs that contribute to containing students during this crisis, reducing their psychological stress, and enabling them to invest their time in what supports their academic achievement.

Furthermore, Dr. Al-Maliki mentioned that the Deanship of Student Affairs launched its new website, which contains all the offered programs, recorded lectures, and daily competitions, to let students to view them in an easy and accessible manner, calling on all students to benefit from its services and programs, and to participate in the competitions and events.
