Confucius Institute Family at University of Bahrain Organizes Cultural Day

The Confucius Institute family at the University of Bahrain organized a cultural day highlighting aspects of Chinese culture and art on campus, where institute students from various levels interacted with visitors.

The event, held under the patronage of University President Professor Riyad Yousif Hamzah and attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain, Qi Zhenhong, included an exhibition of the institute’s activities, a corner for fabric painting (Chinese shawls), a table for Chinese calligraphy, another for preparing Chinese tea, and an area for Chinese incense.

Institute staff performed a traditional Tai Chi show in Chinese costume in front of the ambassador, university vice presidents, deans, students, and visitors.

The Confucius Day activities took place in the courtyard of the university’s administration building and witnessed a remarkable turnout from students and staff.

Director of the Confucius Institute, Wu Shuyin, noted that the day provided a brief introduction to aspects of Chinese civilization, expressing her gratitude to the university president for his continued support of the institute’s activities and programs.

It is worth mentioning that the Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain was established in April 2014. Since its inception, it has been active in teaching the Chinese language through courses for university students and training programs for learners nominated by various governmental and private institutions.

The institute has graduated four cohorts since its launch, with about 110 students enrolled in its courses and programs by the end of 2015.

The Confucius Institute at the university accepts semester-based language study applications from various sectors and institutions, both governmental and private, to teach their employees Chinese. One of the institute’s goals is to enhance cultural and academic ties between Beijing and Manama.
