“Damet Khadra” Initiative Expands Green Spaces at the University of Bahrain with Support from the Chinese Embassy
As part of the fifth phase of Bahrain’s National Afforestation Campaign and under the “Damet Khadra” (Forever Green) initiative, the College of Science at the University of Bahrain has been enhanced with the planting of 40 Poinciana tree saplings, supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The tree-planting event was attended by Her Excellency Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development; His Excellency Mr. Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain; Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain; along with university officials, faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Her Excellency Shaikha Maram expressed her appreciation for the Chinese Embassy’s continued support since the launch of the National Afforestation Campaign. She noted that the contribution reflects the strong bilateral ties between Bahrain and China and supports the initiative’s objectives of expanding green spaces, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering environmental awareness within the community.
For his part, Ambassador Ni Ruchi praised Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable development and its achievements in afforestation, emphasizing the shared vision and cooperation between the two countries in advancing green development. He highlighted the Chinese Embassy’s participation in the “Damet Khadra” initiative since its inception, including contributions to the greening of three sites during different phases of the campaign in support of environmental conservation efforts.
The ambassador also expressed his hope for further collaboration in promoting sustainability and building a greener future for coming generations.
The initiative forms part of the National Afforestation Campaign’s broader efforts to increase green coverage across educational and community institutions, while strengthening partnerships with supporting organizations to advance Bahrain’s sustainable development agenda and environmental stewardship.
