Eskan Bank Honors Winners of the 11th Edition of the CreativeEngineering Award

The Eskan Bank and the University of Bahrain held their annual ceremony to honor the winners of the “Eskan Bank Award for creative Engineering and Interior Design”, under the theme “Rethinking the Mixed-Use Buildings.”
The award saw the participation of students from the Department of Architecture at the College of Engineering, University of Bahrain, based on the results of the judging panel composed of experienced academics and engineers.
This year’s competition focused on designing mixed-use buildings that provide architectural solutions for the evolving and complex relationships between housing, public services, commercial uses, and sustainability.
The first prize in architecture was awarded to student Hamad Hussain Al-Hardan, the second prize went to student Ghofran Ali Abdulla Fateel, and the third prize was awarded to student Mohammed Ali Hameed Sharar.
In the field of interior design architecture, student Zainab Mohammed Hasan Maki received the first prize, student Laila Ibrahim Mohammed Hassan received the second prize, and student Fatima Ameen Majid Salman received the third prize.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, an exhibition showcased the outstanding works—drawings, models, and designs—by the competition participants, allowing them to present and explain their projects to visitors.
On this occasion, the General Manager of Eskan Bank, Mr. Abdullah Taleb, stated that the Engineering Innovation Award represents a fruitful and successful partnership with the University of Bahrain that has spanned eleven years. During this time, students were given the opportunity to experience challenges in order to reach the highest levels of excellence and innovation.
Mr. Taleb added that Eskan Bank is keen on developing its collaboration with the University of Bahrain with the aim of nurturing capabilities in various engineering fields. This stems from the bank’s sense of social responsibility towards developing young talents to implement projects that contribute to comprehensive national development, in line with the evolving requirements and changes in the engineering sector.
The General Manager of Eskan Bank also confirmed that the innovative ideas and designs submitted by university students will be showcased on the bank’s official website, serving as a permanent exhibition for these creative works.
On her part, Dr. Esra Ahmed Wali, Vice President of the University of Bahrain for Partnerships and Development, valued the partnership and cooperation between the bank and the university over the past years, saying:
“The Eskan Bank Engineering Innovation Competition is an inspiring initiative that contributes to encouraging students to bring out the best of their creativity and innovation. It serves as an educational platform where theoretical knowledge is applied to real-world issues, fostering interdisciplinary thinking and shedding light on urban innovation dynamics. The competition’s high standards and criteria enrich the experiences of the new generation of engineers.”
She added:
“At the University of Bahrain, we greatly appreciate Eskan Bank’s initiative in adopting this competition, which elevates the values of innovation and creativity and equips young people with high-level, globally relevant skills. This prepares Bahraini youth with unique capabilities that align with global developments and enhance their readiness for the job market.”
During the ceremony, Dr. Shaikha Hiyfa Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain, emphasized that the award has become a central part of the college’s educational experience. She praised Eskan Bank’s role in supporting students, saying:
“This competition embodies a successful model of integration between the academic and housing sectors. It allows students to work on practical projects that simulate real-life situations, sharpening their technical skills and enhancing their ability to innovate in a stimulating, competitive environment.”
For his part, Engineer Mohammed Bucheeri, General Manager of Eskan Properties Company, said:
“Each year, the bank, through Eskan Properties Company, is keen to select a competition theme that gives students the opportunity to hone their ideas and creativity in alignment with the needs of Bahraini society. The bank has chosen this year’s award theme to align with the current trend of vertical development projects being pursued by both the government and private sector. This helps promote a culture that aligns with future urban and population development.”
Engineer Bucheeri also expressed his admiration for the impressive creative ideas and designs, the quality of the submissions, and the students’ dedication. He affirmed that the participants met the award’s standards, which are sufficient to enrich the experiences of the new generation of architects and engineers.
The “Eskan Bank Award for Creative Engineering & Interior Design” is an annual award established by the Eskan Bank in partnership with the University of Bahrain in 2013. It aims to foster creative competition, expand horizons for innovation among young minds, engage them in national housing and urban development matters, and help young architects and engineers understand the needs of families and contribute to developing solutions.
The award is granted based on high professional standards to outstanding projects and is launched each year under a new theme, selected in alignment with the latest scientific and technological advancements, in service of sustainable development goals and the housing and construction needs of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
