OVERVIEW
The Information Technology Center was established in University of Bahrain in 1991, so that to be entrusted and responsible for the planning, provision and management of an integrated and effective information technology infrastructures and applications. Moreover, usage and implementation of the latest methods and techniques, programs, systems, and equipment in the field of information technology in the university to be in the course of keeping pace with the steady and rapid changes and improvements in this active area. The center consists of four divisions are:
- Information Network
- Information Systems
- Internet Services
- Technical Support and Maintenance
In addition, the center includes Helpdesk unit dealing with user’s incidents, requests and problems through a service desk tool http://helpdesk.uob.edu.bh
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Information Network
This division is mainly responsible for the design, administration, maintenance, and security of the University local information network (LAN) that connects between the computers devices in use in the university different colleges and departments, to facilitate ease of contact in order to exchange and share programs, files, and information. This network interconnects and links between more than fifty (50) of the university buildings.
2. Information Systems
This division is responsible for the design and creation and development, maintaining and protection of the university database and computer information systems. The number of these information systems has reached more than twenty-one (21) system and they were developed based on oracle databases, the most important of those are the Admission and Registration system, Human Resource system, Finance and Budget system, Purchasing and Procurement System, and the Assets system.
3. Internet Services
This division is responsible for the design, development, management, and maintaining of the university website and its pages that have exceeded fifty-four (54) pages in addition to various web applications.
4. Technical Support and Maintenance
This division is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance of computers hardware and peripherals (printers, scanners, plotters, etc.) in use in the university and perform and do all the necessary repairs to sustain its operation and usage status, where their estimated numbers are more than seven thousand (7000) computers and more than two thousand (2000) printers.
