Nears Top 30 Arab Universities: University of Bahrain Jumps 9 Ranks in Recognized Arab University Rankings

The University of Bahrain has advanced nine positions in the latest regional university rankings, reaching 33rd place after previously holding the 42nd position in 2015. The QS University Ranking Center (Quacquarelli Symonds), one of the world’s leading university ranking organizations, announced the top 50 universities in the Arab world out of 1,000, revealing that Bahrain has reached the brink of the top 30.

Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director for the Middle East at QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), stated: “It is encouraging to see the University of Bahrain make a significant leap in the latest QS Arab Region University Rankings. With the new university president and his team, we look forward to further development in the coming years and wish them continued success.”

For his part, University of Bahrain President Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah said: “The work we’ve done in a short period has had a positive and notable impact on improving the university’s position in the QS rankings. We aim to seize future opportunities and reach a prestigious position among the top 25 universities in the region next year.”

Professor Hamzah added: “The recent international accreditations received by the College of Business Administration and the Chemistry Department positively impacted the university’s QS ranking performance. The university also has a clear strategic plan for global marketing, commercial awareness, and international reputation.”

In recent months, the University of Bahrain has significantly improved its use of digital media. Last month, the university was invited to attend and speak at the Global University Summit held in the United Arab Emirates. During the summit, Professor Hamzah spoke about the future of higher education in the digital age, which contributed to enhancing the University of Bahrain’s global image.

In the upcoming academic year, several changes are expected, particularly with the announcement of new plans to establish a Center for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership and achieve the first phase of development and restructuring, including the closure of some centers and the merging of certain colleges.

President Hamzah concluded: “The University of Bahrain plays a key role in economic growth, improving public services, and contributing to community service. Our goal is to reach the next level and drive innovation to establish an international presence for the university through its staff and students.” He added: “This is certainly a joyful milestone for the university and Bahrain, but our ambitions go far beyond this. My message to all university staff and students is that this is just the beginning.
