President of the University of Bahrain Explores Cooperation with UK Centre on Mangrove Cultivation and Carbon Assessment

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, received a delegation from the UK’s Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), headed by Brian Harley, Business Development Manager, Middle East, accompanied by Dr. Andy Smith, Marine Litter Team Leader and Senior Environmental Scientist, and Ms. Rachel Mulholland, Head of Marine Policy and Advisory Services.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in mangrove tree cultivation, exchanging scientific and technical expertise, and reviewing ongoing and completed applied research at the Colleges of Science and Engineering at the University of Bahrain. Discussions also covered joint research opportunities in remote sensing, GIS applications, carbon stock estimation, and coastal ecosystem carbon assessment.

Both sides agreed to form a joint working group to develop a detailed framework and implementation plan for the proposed projects, and to coordinate with the Supreme Council for Environment to ensure alignment with national environmental policies.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Mohammed bin Shams, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department; Dr. Hamood Nasser, Associate Professor of Biology.
