Under the patronage of the Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD), and coinciding with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a seminar titled “National and International Mechanisms for Protecting Community Rights” was held on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, at the University of Bahrain.
The event was part of the Institute’s ongoing “National Awareness Programme,” which aims to spread political and legal awareness and promote positive participation in the democratic process. It also aligns with the Institute’s goals of familiarizing the community with significant national developments and events.
The seminar focused on introducing the National Plan for Human Rights, its objectives, and the relevant bodies responsible for its implementation, all of which are grounded in the principles of the National Action Charter and the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
A distinguished group of speakers participated, including: Attorney Dalal Jasim Al-Zayed, Chairman of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee of the Shura Council. Major-General Mohammed Bin Daina, Director-General of Media and Security Culture at the Ministry of Interior and General Supervisor of the Executive Office of the National Plan to Promote the Spirit of Belonging to the Nation and Reinforce the Values of Nationalism (Bahrainouna). Major Hamad Sawar, Acting Head of Crises and Disasters at the Ministry of Interior.
The dialogue session was moderated by Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel, Associate Professor of Public Law at the University of Bahrain’s College of Law.
The seminar aimed to achieve several key objectives, most notably: raising awareness of constitutional rights, promoting the values of dialogue and acceptance of others, educating on the importance of human rights as a foundation for development, and highlighting national efforts to entrench these rights and preserve their gains.
