Adoption of the National Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy

The University of Bahrain (UOB) adopts and upholds the Kingdom of Bahrain’s National Anti-Corruption Policy , reflecting the nation’s commitment to building transparent, accountable, and ethical institutions. This adoption ensures that all University operations—academic, financial, and administrative—are governed by the same ethical standards and legislative framework applied nationally.

National Framework for Anti-Bribery and Integrity

Bahrain’s national campaign against bribery and corruption, coordinated by the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security under the Ministry of Interior, provides the foundational framework that UOB follows. This national system includes:

  • Implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
  • Direct public reporting through the Nazaha 992 anti-corruption hotline.
  • Mandatory financial disclosure for public officials to prevent conflicts of interest.
  • Integration of anti-money laundering and financial transparency laws under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Central Bank of Bahrain.

By formally aligning with this framework, the University reinforces the Kingdom’s vision for transparent governance and strengthens the ethical foundation of higher education leadership.

UOB Implementation and Internal Measures

The University integrates Bahrain’s national Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption principles into its governance, ensuring compliance and awareness at every level. UOB has:

  • Adopted the core provisions of the national Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption legislation.
  • Established internal reporting and investigation mechanisms for misconduct and unethical behaviour.
  • Protected confidentiality of whistleblowers and emphasized non-retaliation policies.
  • Conducted regular staff and faculty training on anti-corruption ethics and compliance.
  • Ensured alignment with government reporting channels and national integrity initiatives.

Through this adoption, UOB contributes to Bahrain’s unified national approach to integrity and accountability.

Alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Primary) — Targets 16.5 and 16.6 directly correspond to anti-corruption and transparency commitments.
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals — Through institutional collaboration with Bahrain’s national agencies and international conventions.

UOB’s adoption of Bahrain’s national Anti-Corruption policy ensures ethical governance, institutional trust, and contribution to the Kingdom’s sustainable development objectives.
