University of Bahrain Accredited as a Health-Promoting University Under WHO Standards
The University of Bahrain has received accreditation as a Health-Promoting University, in accordance with standards recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), after meeting the program’s requirements and completing the comprehensive assessment process.
In this regard, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, emphasized while receiving the accreditation certificate that this achievement reflects the University’s commitment to providing a healthy, safe, and supportive campus environment that enhances the quality of life for students and staff. He noted that the accreditation reinforces the role of educational institutions as active partners in advancing public health, alongside their academic and research missions.
For her part, Dr. Samar El-Feky, Regional Advisor for Health Promotion, Social Determinants of Health, and Community Initiatives at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO), affirmed that the University of Bahrain’s compliance with the Health-Promoting Universities standards reflects an advanced level of institutional commitment to integrating health and well-being into the university environment. She commended the University’s efforts in implementing the program’s requirements and its ongoing cooperation with relevant national bodies, stressing the importance of building on this achievement and strengthening initiatives that support the health of students and members of the university community.
Dr. Wafa Ibrahim Al-Sharbati, Director of the Health Promotion Directorate at the Ministry of Health, affirmed that the University of Bahrain’s accreditation reflects the integration of national efforts aimed at promoting health, prevention, and quality of life across various institutions. She highlighted the important role of universities in promoting healthy behaviors and raising awareness among students, academic staff, and administrative personnel. She added that the Ministry of Health continues to support partnerships with educational institutions, helping to create sustainable healthy environments and promoting initiatives that make health an essential part of institutional policies and practices.
In November 2025, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Higher Education Council, the University hosted a delegation from the World Health Organization to assess its compliance with the standards of the Health-Promoting Universities program. The assessment committee praised the University’s performance and the quality of its health initiatives and policies.
