University of Bahrain Raises Student Awareness of the Dangers of Digital Rumors
Students at the University of Bahrain explored the importance of handling information circulating in the digital space responsibly, as well as the dangers of rumors and their negative effects on individuals and communities, during a remote workshop organized by the Deanship of Students’ Affairs, titled: “With Our Awareness, We Rise… And with Our Responsibility, We Protect Our Nation.”
The workshop was presented by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Malki. She discussed the concept of rumors, the reasons behind their spread, and their negative consequences, stressing the importance of verifying the accuracy of news and information before sharing it, and building a positive attitude based on responsibility, trust, and national belonging. She also encouraged students to continue their academic journey with a positive spirit and strong motivation.
The workshop also covered several practical skills for countering rumors and misleading content, most notably: verifying sources, strengthening critical thinking, quickly searching for accurate information, checking the authenticity of images and videos, not rushing to repost, responding thoughtfully, breaking the chain of rumor circulation by refusing to share false information, and correcting misinformation in a responsible manner.
This workshop is part of the University of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to enhance students’ social and national awareness, and to develop their skills in dealing responsibly with information in the digital space.
