University of Bahrain Receives Joint Delegation form IFoA and BIBF

The College of Science at the University of Bahrain received a joint delegation from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom (IFoA) and the Bahrain Institute of Banking Studies (BIBF) on Sunday (27 April 2025). The visit aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation and partnership to improve job prospects for graduates of the Actuarial Science Program, offered by the Department of Mathematics. The meeting focused on preparing graduates to obtain the international professional certifications needed for the labor market.
The discussion highlighted the labor market’s needs for actuaries and the latest developments in the practical field in relation to actuarial science. Prof. Mohammed Mustafa Al-Helo, Dean of the College of Science, outlined the college’s academic program development plan. Meanwhile, Dr. Sawsan Hilal, Head of the Department of Mathematics, presented updates on the Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science program, recently reviewed by the Education and Training Quality Authority (BQA) and included in the National Qualifications Framework.
The two parties explored ways to strengthen their collaboration, focusing on key initiatives such as: introducing new elective courses within the program, allowing students to earn professional certifications aligned with IFoA standards, developing international training opportunities for students in the specialization, giving them hands-on experience in global settings, and organizing a joint conference on actuarial sciences and business, fostering knowledge exchange and potential partnerships.
The meeting was attended by representatives from (IFoA), including Ms. Kartina Tahir Thomson, President of the Institute; Ms. Erin Redman, Head of Marketing Development for the Middle East and Africa; and Ms. Ruth Burns Hart, Coordinator of Global Partnerships. Representing (BIBF) were Mr. Abdulla Al-Hawaj, Director of the Institute, and Ms. Manal Mashkoor, Head of the Insurance Center. From UOB, attendees included: Prof. Mohammed Al-Helo, Dean of the College of Science,Dr. Sawsan Hilal, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Dr. Babacar Seck, Coordinator of the Actuarial Science Program, and Members of the program committee, Dr. Abdulla Eid and Dr. Ahmed Matar.
