University of Bahrain Secures Third Place Regionally in Chem-E Jeopardy Competition

A student team from the University of Bahrain (UOB) secured third place regionally in the Chem-E Jeopardy Competition, held as part of the Student Regional Conference (SRC) hosted by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia from August 31 to September 2, 2026.

The UOB team represented the student chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and comprised Malak Al Nuaimi, Zainab Mirza, Ahmed Al Athem, and Mohammed Al Doseri. The team delivered a strong performance in the competition, which tested students’ knowledge across various areas of chemical engineering as well as their ability to respond quickly to scientific questions.

UOB also had an academic presence at the conference. Dr. Mohammed Ali Bin Shams, Chairperson of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering, delivered a lecture on the future of chemical engineering in the age of artificial intelligence, while Dr. Ejaz Rashid Ghulam, Assistant Professor in the department, served as a member of the judging panel for the student research poster competition.
