University of Bahrain Student Wins First Place at Generative AI Hackathon

A student from the University of Bahrain, Basel Hasan Malalla, won first place at the “Generative AI Applications in Education” Hackathon, hosted by the American University of Bahrain from January 21 to 23, 2024. The hackathon brought together students from several universities across the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop innovative AI-based solutions aimed at enhancing the education sector, with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other industry partners.

The event highlighted the growing impact of Generative AI as a transformative technology in education and innovation. Participants took part in insightful training workshops on generative AI concepts and their applications in education, alongside hands-on training on AWS services for building generative AI models. Throughout the three-day hackathon, students formed teams to ideate, innovate, and develop web applications powered by generative AI, benefiting from mentorship provided by industry experts.

The hackathon concluded with teams presenting their projects before a panel of distinguished judges, showcasing creativity, technical skills, and practical solutions. Basel Hasan Malalla’s achievement reflects the University of Bahrain’s commitment to empowering its students with advanced digital skills and fostering innovation aligned with emerging technologies.
