Experts from 21 Countries Discussed the Future of World Heritage UOB Conference Explores “Heritage Sustainability” Amid Global Digital Developments

A total of 153 researchers discussed heritage sustainability in light of global digital advancements during the third International Conference on Sustainable Heritage (ICSH), organized by the University of Bahrain under the theme “Heritage Sustainability” on Wednesday and Thursday, November 26–27, 2025.

The conference explored topics such as adopting modern technology and innovation for sustainable heritage, digital innovations, sustainable practices, community engagement, along with historical and contemporary approaches to heritage conservation. These were presented through 128 scientific papers submitted by researchers from 21 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

The conference opening session featured Shaikh Mohamed Khalifa Al Khalifa, Director General of Heritage at Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, who delivered a lecture on Bahrain’s extensive experience in protecting its heritage and adapting it for contemporary use. Also featured was Professor Noman Ahmed, an international expert and UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Urban Regions at NED University, who gave a lecture on the role of heritage conservation in building sustainable cities and communities.

The conference also included hands-on workshops where participants learned to use smart digital tools for heritage applications.

Accepted papers within the IEEE scope will be submitted to its conference indexing service for inclusion in Scopus. The conference serves as an opportunity for researchers, academics, and professionals working in cultural heritage at an international level to meet and exchange expertise in this field.
